The Quilters Friend

One of my favorite parts of our trip to St. George was meeting Julie Stauffer. She has a long arm quilting business called "The Quilters Friend"

If you have never seen one of these in action, it is a real treat. She has turned her garage into a wonderful, peaceful studio. She does everything freehand, nothing is predrawn or computerized. She is so passionate about what she does and talking to her just gives you the quilting bug. She has won awards for her quilting. When we were there we got to see a lady come pick up a quilt (her first one, when you see the photos you won't beleive it!) It was so beautifuly pieced and quilted. see photos. Of course i cried just looking at it.

I got the quilting bug from my friend Mindy J. I am forever in her debt for teaching me the art of piecing and quilting. It is my true love of sewing. I have had to put it on the back burner for my bag business. I look forward to getting back into it.

Julie has about a 6 month waiting list for her work, but it is worth the wait. you can contact her at 435.673.3173

thanks Julie for the tour!

It is a long-time dream of mine to have a machine like this! My sewing machine can't handle quilting on anything bigger than a crib quilt, so I send my quilts away to a lady in Nebraska to have them quilted. She is very cheap and does a great job. But if I had one of these quilting machines.... oh the joy.

I caught the quilting bug when I was about 16, and I have 2 unfinished quilts in the making. (Probably for the rest of my life) One is a huge king-size one that I am hand-quilting (definately for the rest of my life.) Scrapbooking has kind of taken over, but I want to delve back in!

There is a lady in my ward who also does great work! My mom sends everything up to her. I love to go and watch her cool machine but haven't gotten the bug. Too much time and money! My mom thinks she does a great job for about half the price of the going rate. It would be great for you locals to not have to pay shipping.

This is not something I aspire to do, but it's definitely something I can appreciate. Michelle has made me the most beautiful, huge quilt and she made Whitney a darling one when she was born. I love them, and love everything about them, but don't have the patience or inclination to make them myself. Sad really.

I wish I knew how to quilt. I should have had Mindy J show me too. Heidi C. tried to show me, but I think I finally finished one quilt and it is more of a patchwork quilt. I had very lofty ideas, but.. I really do wish I was more of a sewing girl.

The quilt is beautiful.

Unfortunately, Julie Stauffer has also been accused of being very dishonest. She is charasmatic and easy to like, and you think you can trust her, but she is currently the defendant in at least three court litigations. Please be careful who you send your precious quilts to!

Yes, PLEASE check for a business licence for companies such as "The Quilters Friend"! I sent some important and precious things to Julie Stauffer and learned the hard way that she doesn't even have a business licence! We finally had to get an attorney to take her to court as well. The things she stole from us cannot be recovered.
