Enrichment 2006

I can't believe I have forgotten to write about last Saturday's Enrichment. It was really great. It was called "Traditions - A Holiday Welcome" Which was not even my idea. I don't' think anyone here yet knows of my love for traditions. I am on the committee. I was in charge of the advertising and doing one of the projects.

Here are the sign up sheets, which thanks to the ribbon outlet had some fun ribbon on them.

We made Christmas pillowcases. One lady made 18!
We made the "Hugs and Kisses" advent.

They did a holiday traditions book. Everyone brought copies of traditions and recipes and then put them in a three ring binder. I loved the cover they made for it.

We also did hand dipped candles. They got the candles from IKEA and then dipped them in different colors.

I was in charge of the Wooden Gingerbread houses. My father in law saved me on this one. He made up this concept of making a wooden gingerbread house that you ice and then wash off and use year after year. It is so brilliant. Jeff had one of these growing up and I have always wanted one. So his Dad made up a pattern and emailed it to me along with a sample house. Then one of the incredible guys in the ward cut 33 of these houses. They have drilled holes in them because you put lights in them so it is lit up. We just had to stain them because the guy who cut them put them together for us too. I am so amazed by peoples generosity sometimes.

I also made Mindy's granola and it turned out great and had many requests for the recipe. I used the honey wheat germ this time.
Having a calling like this has really helped me to meet a lot of people at church and I feel very grateful for it. But what is so funny is I had forgot to sign up for one thing, and I made the sign up sheets. So it gave me a good chance to just chat.

oh how i would have LOVED to come to this day!!! i love the tradition book. if there is way to get copies of what people i added i would be happy to pay for them. i just can't get enough of this right now. it has been so much on my mind this year. and the gingerbread house idea is awesome. i also like the pillowcase idea. this is new to me.

so i'm going to risk sounding completely stupid (i am craft-impaired) but i am a very beginner sewer...so here goes...how do you make a nice pillowcase? i get the idea of sewing straight stitches to make a rectangle case to put over your pillow, but do you do anything special around the border to make it look a little less like a beginning sewer made it?

i love your ideas!

Your clipboards are cute all by themselves! It looks like you guys did a lot of fun stuff. I'm very curious about the wooden gingerbread house that you ice each year, I need to see a picture of a frozen one. It sounds cool, but I'm clueless.

I would have loved to attend this event. I've never seen such cute sign-ups before! Please share anything new that you learned, and I will be keeping this idea in mind in case I'm ever enrichment leader again...

I love the wood houses- what a brilliant idea. I just don't understand the holes/lights. Do you stick little white lights out those holes or is it just to let the light from the inside shine through the holes. Please enlighten me.

Awesome. My new ward doesn't have an annual super Saturday like I'm use to. I'm very sad about that. Love what you guys did. Lots of good ideas to steal.

I want to move into your ward! wow! it's amazing to see that something as simple as a beautiful big bow on a clip board would really entice me to sign up for something.
