12 Days of Christmas
Today we started my favorite Holiday Tradition. We pick a family to do the 12 days of Christmas to. We buy a nativity set and bring them a piece of it every night. Tonight we started with the angel. We usually begin on the 13th to end on Christmas eve, but this year I wanted to end on Christmas morning. We bring a piece each night tied up with a gold bow and then the last piece to arrive is the baby Jesus. We love running and trying not to get caught. This house should be pretty easy, it has a back alley you can run into. Should be fun!
We have done it for 5 years now. Last year the family never found out that it was us (at least we don't think they know) it was so fun to hear them tell people how they enjoyed getting the pieces. On Christmas Eve Jeff dressed up in his Santa Suit, (such a great story why my husband owns a Santa suit, I will have to write that down) put on his sunglasses and actually handed it to them. It was so great.
The year I was pregnant with Sally Jane I was the Young Women's president and all of my YW did our family for the 12 days of Christmas. They started on the 1st of December and did if for 12 days. It was one of the greatest Christmas's our family has ever had, we felt so loved. It is an awesome feeling to have someone do that for you and I hope we never stop doing this for some other family.
Does your family do the 12 days of Christmas?
if this is something you think you might want to do, keep your eyes peeled for a nativity set after the holidays or even during, I bought ours today for 66% off it was about $10.

I really like this idea of doing the Nativity. I'll have to do this and look for a sale after Cmas this year - though I'm surprised how few stores seem to carry nativities. We have done this some years. Very impactful memory for me doing this for a girl in need in my YW - anonymously - and having my mom drive me over every night.
What a great twist on the 12 Days of Christmas...
Where did you buy the Nativity set? That's a great tradition, I want to do that too.
That is the greatest idea. You are full of the best ideas!! I love reading your blog. I will have to remember this for next year.
I love this idea. Our neighborhood is not conducive to knocking and running (too far to run and no where to hide) and if we leave it out for them to find the animals will get it. This may be the solution because a little wrapped package wouldn't smell like food. If only I had heard about it one day sooner, we will actually be here for the holidays and could have done all 12 days. Darn!
I love the nativity idea. We for sure will be doing it next year. We have done the 12 days of Christmas before but having been a slacker this year the 13th came and went without us doing anything. I guess we could do the 10 days of CHristmas and start tonight!!
Thanks for the great ideas.
