Heavy, Heavy Hangover thy Poor Head
What do you wish this person?
What do you wish this person?
Growing up every year for our birthday the above saying was what we said when we opened every gift. You would place a present on your head and the say the above, the birthday girl would make a wish for the person that gave them that gift. It is a beautiful tradition and I need to ask my parents where they got it from. But what is fun is to find all my past birthdays and have photos of us doing that.
Well, my head is quite heavy for all the gifts and cards that Jeff has had to placed on my head and ask me that question. I am overwhelmed and do not feel worthy for the love that I have received this week. I really don't even know what to say or how to begin to thank everyone for taking the time to make, send, call, type birthday wishes.
But before I go on I must give credit to my friend Jill. Jill has started a circle of blogging women that she takes care of, watches over, encourages, strengthens and loves. Her sidebar is not like most, she knows all of their favorites, address' and email of everyone on her sidebar and sends them good mail often. She knows their birthdays too. So before everyone's birthday she emails all of us to remind us. And because of her birthday reminder my poor mailman has been very busy!
Look at what was sitting outside my front door on my birthday. Can you imagine such a thing?
The phone rang off the hook with phone calls from, Bevan, Mom & Dad, Nicole, Shari O, Jen V., VonTrammell family singers, Mindy, Jill, Becky T, Debbie, Tasha, Allison, Sharon, Heather C and her singing daughter Emma, Jill B. Julie R (who has called me every birthday for 12 years), Paige, Adam and Shalyce (one of my YW who is at college... I can't believe she remembered)
The Email system did not disappoint either...
I got a great gift from Stacy S. who typed up 100 things about me. Yes 100! I got a fun little email surprise from Holly and Emily with a subscription to MS Food and an email from a guy friend from HS who lives in the area, how he remembered my birthday is a mystery. (the whole Elvis thing does help) A Brighton ECard from my sister, love that Brighton!
I have decided in years past to love my birthdays and to make them a special day. After doing AK's scavenger hunt that was so cute, I dropped her off at school and went to Target. I am always happy after a trip there and thought it would be a great way to start the day. I found a button maker that was only $16.00 and is 18 times cheaper than the commercial one I have been dreaming of.
I then went to the grocery store and bought the makings for my homemade German chocolate cake that I love thanks to Lisa W. in TN and tacos. ( I have eaten tacos for my birthday for years) Came home and dropped my kids off at Chelsea P. house her gift to me so I could go to lunch at Cosi's with Linda and Nicole. It was so great and I love their signature salad.
I came home and found the mass off boxes on my front porch. I surprisingly waited until late that evening to open anything and it was a thrill.
The day got a little out of control with a late night for Jeff, Sally Jane throwing up in her bed and on me, news my mom was in the hospital, an unfinished cake in the kitchen and no tacos, sad Annie Kate because she had planned on doing a little birthday shopping and wanted to finish the cake. Because it being my birthday and the good mail packages abound the smile could not be removed off my face.
A million thank yous for all of your kindness on my day. Your phone calls, email, letters and boxes. It was a FANTASTIC day and I look forward to this year to be able to pay it forward and I "wish this person" each a wonderful birthday like I had today.
Take a peek at the slide show sharing with you all my wonderful gifts. You can slow it down if you want to read what each thing was. It is almost like a mini pink Christmas!

By the way, that is the recipe I use for German chocolate cake too! I have it every year on my birthday.
Fun birthday surprises! You will have to post that recipe for the yummy cake! Sounds great!I hope that your Mom is ok being in the hospital! Enjoy your day today!
What an amazing collection of gifts! You have been so generous with so many and it's nice to see that it's coming full circle!
I hope things are better for your mom!
I totally forgot about "heavy, heavy hangover thy poor head, what do you wish with a bump on your head?!" That was our version anyway...but why exactly we bumped the person on the head with the present I don't know. Anyway, that really makes me smile just thinking about how fun your birthday must have been for you. I hope everything is okay with your Mom.
Hope your Mom is okay and glad you had a great bithhday!
I am glad so many people were thinking of you on your special day!
Mark and I were talking about the present over the head thing. What a great tradition! Love that it makes you think of others first before getting stuff. So glad your birthday was wonderful. Can think of no one who deserves it more!
I am so glad you had such a great day. I hope its the start to a great 36th year!
That was neat to see all 76 pictures!! of birthday goodness. My card was no. 71 and I was starting to worry you didn't get the pkg. You got so many diverse and thoughtful surprises - truly an amazing pileup on your doorstep!
Ooohhhh...a Button Maker. The possiblities are ENDLESS!

What fun stuff you got!
I'm am so thrilled with the massive amount of good birthday mail you received! You totally deserved it and it makes me giddy to see that picture of all those boxes on your porch ON your special day. I hope it really was a wonderful and memorable birthday, and I hope that the abundance of goodness that came your way will give you comfort the next time you're feeling down.
What a fun slide show! Your mailman must have been bewildered. I'm so glad you had a wonderful day. I hope everything is okay with your mom - that's not the kind of birthday news you want.
Happy Birthday, a little belated. What a treat to have such a porch!
What a wonderful sight on your porch! I love that you had a great day even if there was a couple little bumps. I would have loved to save them until the night too, great idea. You did deserve every second of it!
I don't know you, but looking at your birthday slideshow tells me so much. You are an amazing person. You don't "get" to that degree unless you "give" to that degree.
Wonderful to read/see that you had such a great day. I think you are so right on about making your own bday a great day. I am often disappointed on my bday b/c I wait for others to make it a great day when I really should start to celebrate it myself and go from there. As I frequently do, I have had another "A-HA" moment while reading your blog.
I am so glad you had a great day Kristi!
I wish I could have gotten my act together enough to get a gift sent to you, but please know I was thinking of you the whole day. :)
What a great birthday you had! As the mother, I often feel that our birthdays sometimes get left in the cold, because we aren't making them special like we do everyone else's. Even the most loving husband isn't the best at this. I love how you have taken the bull by the horns and decided to make your birthday a big deal! I loved your birthday video. I loved that YOU had all those photos (my mom isn't ready to give those up yet). I love how you have touched so many lives, that they feel the need to reach back out to you, with gifts, cards, and well wishes. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with all of us. You inspire me every time I read your blog to try and be a more loving, giving person. THANK YOU!!!
I can't believe your front porch. I was hoping it would look something like that. Love the slide show you put together as well. Fun to see what you got.
Thanks for always inspiring and making a girl feel good about herself. You rock!
ps make sure to share the cake recipe.
What an awsome slide show and such an outpouring of love.
