cribless

Well, today was a big day for us. No more cribs in our home. Jeff and I went to IKEA today and got Annie Kate a bed and move her in her own room. The rooms are SO SMALL in our home and sharing a room with Caroline has been a little bit crazy and we have been able to tell she has needed her own space. So we put the little ones in the bunk beds and Annie Kate is flying solo.

Can I just say again how much I love IKEA. Once we get her room together I will take photos. We found the bed that Stacy recommended and a great desk, huge sale going on right now.
This is a photo of Annie Kate when she got home and Jeff telling her what are plans for the night were. Jeff at this moment had no idea he was set for 5 hours of constructing, where is Mark S. when you need him?

When Jeff went up to take down the crib he handed me my camera and said "don't you want to take a photo?" I totally teared* up! It was a sad little moment... but at the same time oh so great! So I took a photo of the girls all behind the bars. They all three used this great crib which was a gift from Jeff's parents.

I think it will be a little bit of an adjustment for Sally Jane going to bed in a big girl bed, but tonight she seemed excited and went right to bed! (21 months old)

One of the best things about having Annie Kate out of the top bunk was seeing her kneel down to say her prayers at the side of the bed at the edge of her new bed. It was a sweet memory.

*is teared a real word. spell check did not acknowledge it and I could not find it in dictionary.com

Ohh! Sally Jane looks so cute in her big girl bed! And I love the excited Annie Kate and Dad picture.

It's kind of the end of an era at our house, too. Our baby is done with bottles - just reached that milestone yesterday. We both (my husband and I - not the baby!) got a little teary. He's actually having quite a hard time with this milestone, which is so sweet to me. I can't imagine how it will be in another year or so when it's time to put away the crib.

Nobody will be crying about diapers here, either!

Oh, I would be tearing up over this one too. Eva's only a month younger than Sally Jane but I can't quite imagine her moving out of the crib yet. I love the photo of AK and Jeff, such excitement! such pride!

I haven't been able to get rid of our cribs yet. I just can't do it- plus the boys are still sleeping in them just fine. (I've been eyeing a great looking rustic bunk for their cowboy room however!) Cribs have such history. I'll never forget the heart-healing excitement of buying Sadie's white crib!

Oh this is so sweet! We just moved our little one out of the crib and into the bunk beds. I was so sad! It is such a milestone, moving out your youngest. Our house is so small that she slept in her crib in our room, (the biggest room in the house) and she would sing herself to sleep. I missed that so much. But she loves her big bed, and she loves sleeping with the big girls. Who am I to stand in the way of progress! I love your pictures. I never would have thought to take a picture of telling her about her new bed, and yet that is the sweetest daddy-daughter picture ever!

These are the moments to record. Very bittersweet...I'm dying as my baby is growing up. He's nearly two & I know I need to nix the pacifier for good, but oh that means he'll be moving on & I'm just not ready.

Adorable pictures! I was sad to take down our crib too. I hope Sally Jane does well in her big girl bed. It can go either way in an instant (in our experience anyway).

I love IKEA too and wish we lived closer to one. Although that would mean spending more money so I guess it is a good trade off.

I'm so jealous you can just run to IKEA to buy new beds. That's what we want to do so badly but have to wait several more months until ours gets built. (I hate waiting.)

It's so cute to think of Sally Jane and Caroline sharing a room together. SJ does seem tiny, but I'm sure this is an exciting milestone for the girls. Annie Kate must be thrilled to have her own room!

i wish our ikea were ready because i'm ready for it! we will be moving hanna into a bed pronto because of #3 making his/her debut in 3 months. but i think it will be so different when it's packing the crib up. so many memories attached to a crib. sigh.

your ak is adorable!

We're all out of the crib too! I had to chuckle about the 5 hour Ikea construction job. They seriously have the worst directions. My husband groans whenever I buy something from Ikea. Can't wait to see the pics of the finished bedroom.

This is how bad I am -my children used the same crib(we have 2 kids!it's in perfect shape!)which is still HANGING on a wall in our garage!! My 'baby' is 8!geesh!

I've tried to share it with others -but they always wanted their own.
I hate to part with it -I'm VERY sentimental. Cute pix!-ciao

We just moved Addie into a "big girl bed" when we moved home. I agree it's sad...that is why I made Richard put my rocker up in the attic, because I could not part with the thing that I rocked all three of my babies.

I hope the excitement continues.

Cute pictures! We put our crib away and almost gave it away with all of the other baby things but decided to hang on to it. So glad we did because a year later found out we would need it again! We really wish we would have kept all the other baby things. I will be so happy to be done with diapers, having 2 in them is killer!

I really enjoyed your post about your book club. I hate facing reality when it comes to certain things. I rarely watch the news because it is so disturbing and if I don't know it is happening I can't worry or have the stress set in. Glad you went and had a great time.

I would be totally sad too. Weston is 21 months right now and I can't imagine him being in a big boy bed. And since ALL of my kids have slept in that bed I am not sure I would be able to part with it. My boys are really crammed. We have one room for them. Bunkbeds and a crib=no space. Taylor is the lucky princess with the queen sized bed. Now I know why she wanted Weston to be a boy!

I also dread potty training in a few months as well. But will welcome my checkbook to being diaper free! She looks cute in her bed all cuddled up. And your cards were so cute and totally worth the wait!

Loved the photos of the girls behind their bars! You are so great with your photo journaling! I never even thought to take a photo last year when we took down our crib. Oh, the joy you will feel when you have no more diapers - - - ever! JOY!

I´m going to be spending a lot of time at IKEA when we get back to the states as we had to ditch a lot of furniture before our move to Peru. The bad thing is I might be stuck putting it together myself (think scary) since my hubby will be jumping right into Sub-I´s. I love the picture of Jeff and Annie Kate. She is so animated and I love that you can totally see her emotion.

I found your blog through a friends blog. I think your creativity is inspiring and I loved your Pink Christmas idea. I hope I can participate this year. It looks like so much fun!!

Love the dad/daughter picture. I know I will bawl when we take down the crib for good- Mya is so ready for a big girl bed but we are saving up for bunks and then will make the switch before this baby comes in April.

We are making this transition in our house as well and I'm so sad about it. It's the one thing that keeps me from pushing potty training. I'm just not sure I'm ready to see her grow up. I love the toddler age.

She looks so excited to be in her new bed.

i will have to say in IKEA's defense. it was so easy to put together (jeff said) just time consuming. he was amazed at how well the instructions were set out and the step by step.

I LOVE IKEA! For those of you in the SLC area...watch out! You will have a new obsession. So many great things from furniture to containers to dishes to pillows to picture frames to toys to lamps...you name it! Love it.

Mindy, I am glad to hear that your boys are still in their cribs, Evie is too and I can't imagine switching her. I'm probably making a big mistake, but I think she would be up and down all night.

Kristi, you keep note of all the tips about making the transition, so when I am ready you can help! Did you get one of those side rail things?
