seeing the sky again

This could likely go down as one of the hardest weeks I have had in a long time. It is hard to see your parents hurting. I am so grateful to the many families who jumped in back at home to take care of my kids everyday and even gave me a ticket so that I could be here with my family.
On Monday I dropped off my kids at my friends' homes and then drove to the airport and called Jeff and said I had to leave and told him where to get the kids on his way home from work.

I have lived in many states: New Mexico, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, South and North Dakota, Minnesota, Louisiana, Tennessee and Maryland. I tend to pride myself that I make the most of any place I live and love it. But if you ask me about the 18 years I lived in New Mexico, I don't have the best to say about the state.

Being back in New Mexico this week has been hard but the silver lining has been rediscovering this state and falling in love with it for maybe the first time.
I have eaten Chile Rellenos every night for dinner. Pure heaven. I have been taking time to run on UNM's campus each day and discover all the beautiful vegetation that I never noticed before. Even the cactus look pretty to me. But tonight after driving back to the hospital I said to my dad, "You can see the sky here!" I had not noticed I have not lived somewhere where you can see the sky for many years, so much vegetation and green. I don't see the sky in D.C. like you do in New Mexico. It almost reminds me of North Dakota you can see as far as your eyes will take you... or my favorite joke - You can watch your dog run away for three days.
It is beautiful!

I never knew sunsets were so pretty until moving here. I had never seen colorful sunsets living in Las Vegas. Enjoy the sky!

Beautiful post. Sounds like good healing for everyone. Perspective is a wonderful thing. Family, friends and the beauty of this world. What else is there really?

Your perspective on the once unnoticed is amazing. Know you and your family are thought and in many prayers. I hope that makes things a bit easier.

I'm sorry this week has been so stressful for you. It's a such blessing to your mom and dad for you to be there.
It's uplifting to hear your reflections about your time in NM. You have a such a positive spirit.

I'd love to visit NM someday, the sunsets, skies, and desert scenery sound breathtaking.
I'll be thinking of your family and especially your mom.

I'm so glad there's a silver lining to your hard week. You're far too young to have to be dealing all this stress right now. I'm so glad you're running on campus, noticing the beauty around your, eating good food and enjoying the sky. I'll keep praying for you all.

AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, OUR THOUGHTS TOO HAVE BEEN WITH YOU THIS PAST WEEK. WE HOPE, TOO, THAT YOUR MOM IS DOING BETTER. I KNOW IT IS VERY STRESSFUL FOR YOU, BUT I AM GLAD THAT YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE A SILVER LINING INSIDE THE CLOUDS AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE THE MOST OF A DIFFICULT SITUATION. WE LOVE YOU!!!

I can't believe you will be there in June. I'll send you an email and see if our dates coincide. That would be a fun day for me to meet you in person!

Keith always talks about seeing the sky again after returning home to Alberta from his mission in DC. I'm glad you found the sky, and I hope those skies get bluer by the day. Sorry you've had such a rough week. You and your family are in my thoughts.
