Annie Kate's bike handlebars
4th on the 7th

Our fourth of July was not what I was hoping, but the fact that no one threw up I felt I could hardly complain.
The weather was absolutely wonderful in the morning and most of the day. We managed to get out that morning and make it to our neighborhood parade. Annie Kate loves decorating her bike for such events. It always amazes me how non-embarrassed she is to go all out. Taking photos for me was painful. I felt horrible, I was tired, my camera seemed so huge and in the way, so I only snapped a few.

but this photo was one of my favorites. We live in the most American neighborhood, big front porches, flags everywhere and bunting - oh I love the bunting. (they don't put bunting on their porches in New Mexico)
This cute darling couple sat on their porch of their darling yellow house (a total far out dream for me to live in a yellow house) on the parade route and waved to everyone. I need to print this photo and put it in their mailbox. I just wanted to run over there and hug them!
another photo of a house on the route with everyone waving.
at the end of the parade route is a carnival for the kids. This is our second year and Annie Kate run to get in line for the dunk tank again. She did it like 4 times and loved it.
Caroline was thrilled for the pony rides and specifically wanted this pony. Sally Jane was so tired by the point and ready to go back to bed. And I guess I didn't look so great either because Jeff came up to me and said, "you better get that look off your face, you look like you are about to throw up" and laughed and said, "I feel like I am"
So after that we went back home.
(pineapple with ribbon is the best hostess gift)

Fortunately our friends invited us over for dinner so we would have something to do. But Sally Jane did not last long and the night ended early. We even had a hail storm during dinner which is always exciting to watch. Once we saw that the National Mall was evacuated due to weather about 2 hours before the fireworks, I told Jeff that was the perfect time to go downtown as we would have any seat in the house. But even the spontaneous us, had no energy for such an event. We saw a few fireworks from our house and went to bed early.

I had such a great 4th post in my head that I wish I would have drafted earlier, but I will have to save it for next year. It is amazing how much a little sickness stopped our little family for two weeks.

That couple on the porch is the cutest. You totally need to give them a copy of the picture!

I shouldn't be surprised that you were out enjoying the festivities even though you guys were still feeling sick. I'm just glad you didn't brave going downtown.

I am so sorry you have been so sick! That is just no fun. We have had a little of it. A little throw up here and there. Everyone has made it to the toilet except for Livy, I was lucky enough to wake up to throw up being on my feet. My sheets needed to be washed anyway so it gave me an excuse to get that done. I hope you get feeling better soon. No fun for mom to be out of commision.

I love, love, love that picture of the old couple. I wanted a front porch so bad witht his house when we built it but it just didn't work out with the plans. And a yellow house? That is seriously to die for.

Get feeling better.

So sorry that the Sickness-That-Would-Never-Leave put a damper on your 4th festivities. Hope y'all are truly on the other side of that now!

Love AK's all-out bike & outfit--so fun.

BTW, just want you to know you DO make a great difference in Blogville, and I have so enjoyed your posts, tips, thoughts, etc.

Such cute pictures! Love that yellow house - I'm there with you on that dream. We were able to catch the fireworks, we headed down around 6:30p.m. - no traffic and we parked up by GW 23rd. It was pouring down rain, we sat in the car for about 45 minutes and headed down to the mall. It was wet, but the lightest we've ever seen it. Luckily there is always next year for you guys. Glad to hear your coming out of all the sickness - you need a break girl!

I did cross my mind that your 4th July must've been shades below what you intended. Hadn't you bought a lovely little dress a while ago, for SJ or C? It's ringing a v.faint bell...

I love the colours in the 2nd house picture! And agree that it'd be a nice, simple gesture to pop a copy of that photo into the old couple's letterbox.

Glad you managed to do some things, but I think you were right to err on the side of caution and not push it too much. Hope you're all 100% next week.

I love the buntings, too, so festive, so cute! That couple on the porch is adorable, I'm sure they would love a copy of the photo in their mailbox. I'm sorry your holiday was disappointing, but so very happy that your family is doing better now. 2 weeks of sickness can really do a number on everybody.

What a fun place to celebrate the 4th of July. On another note... a few months ago we painted our house. I was seriously considering painting it yellow until my husband forbid it. It's a far off dream of mine too! So charming!
