seeing the sights.

We are so lucky to have family in town this weekend and today we hit the road for 12 hours of sightseeing. I loved this photo of my Garmin seeing all the places we went.

Highlights of the day.
  • 3 parents
  • 3 strollers
  • 7 kids - one is only 5 weeks old. (his mom looks AMAZING!)
  • wonderful weather
  • Iwo Jima - seeing a change of command on the lawn
  • Arlington Cemetery
  • President Kennedy's eternal flame
  • Tomb of the unknown solider
  • paused for a funeral
  • lunch in the car - thank goodness for packing a lunch
  • Mt. Vernon
  • Ice cream and gigantic pretzels
  • Jefferson Memorial
  • FDR Memorial
  • loving seeing the cousins together
  • Jeff bringing pizza to the tidal basin and feeding the ducks
Tomorrow brings on the National Mall and the top of the Washington monument. Bring on the history!!My favorite photo of the day - the girls at the Jefferson memorial

I've heard of the changing of the guard at Arlington, but what's the changing of the guard at Iwo Jima?

Cute picture!!

Sounds so fun. You've probably mentioned before but I'm curious what you do to keep the girls happy in lines and long waits. Do you pack snacks, books, etc or do they maintain interest in the sites pretty well?

So fun for family and friends to visit you as I would assume you would be the ultimate tour guide. I love how you just go out and DO. I would be interested as well how you keep the littles busy and happy in long lines.??

What fun! It is always fun to have company when you can take them around to see amazing sights. I can imagine you would make an ideal tour guide, full of knowledge and enthusiasm. Congratulations on making it through 12 hours of sightseeing with all the kids! Love the photo.

How did you pull off a 12 hour day with all those littles? That is a talent for sure. Have fun with your family.

I'm glad you had weather for another full-day of D.C. site seeing. Do you guys carbo-load before these outings or drink Gatorade all day? I don't know how you last so long.

I think you should do a smugmug gallery of ice cream cones since your girls get one every time you go out. It would be fun to see their evolution with ice cream.

Ooooh, what's the Women's Memorial?? *sigh* off to Wikipedia again! I virtually live there!

Glad you had such a successful day with everyone. So great to have all that on your doorstep!

Aren't those GPS gadgets cool? It sure makes getting around so much easier. I have only used them in rental cars, but am about to purchase my very own at Costco this weekend :)

Have fun with your family!

How fun - a whirlwind tourist adventure in DC! I think that my little family is headed up to the Mall today - who knows, maybe we will run into you! I am always amazed at what a small world it really is! If you see a couple of parents with 3 crazy girls (4 1/2 and younger) it might be us!!
Have fun!
