running in long sleeves

Today was my first day running in just a long sleeve shirt. I started running last year when it was already painfully hot and the few runs i did in the winter I always had on my green machine jacket.
today I left hoping my legs would remember what they learned last year. They have been on vacation for way too long. I left with my green jacket, gloves and hat. But after a few minutes had taken all of them off. Even though I could still see my breath I was so warm. I didn't think I actually ran fast enough to get that warm.
So everything you hear about taking time off from running will set you back to where you started is malarkey! This rule must only apply to people who are actually fast. Because I was amazed at running the first 3 miles of my 5 - and seriously could not feel myself running. I seem to be comparing everything to last year at this time and thinking I could not even run a minute straight. It actually got me excited to see what I could this year starting from where I am now.
It was just so great to be outside and I loved wearing my long sleeve shirt with my peek-a-boo hole for my thumb. (yea merino wool!)
So if your legs have been on vacation too - don't worry they will step right back into place!

Aren't our bodies amazing?!? Legs and feet DO remember what to do even after a vacation.

Since my running had been sporadic at best this early Spring, and I considered 4.5 miles to be a long run, I was worried about doing a half last weekend. Thankfully, no issues and it sparked my buzz about running again. Whew!

Glad your run went well!! Whoop!

I think it applies when you are slow, if in that time off, you decide to pack on 20 lbs, too. But...I'm working on it!

Good for you Kristi! That is great! It is definitely warm here...57 degrees is warm compared to what we have been 40!! I am so happy about the warmer weather!

so true, so true!

i looked all over wilmington for peek-a-boo sleeves this winter, with no luck. we're definitely past long sleeve running here now!

I'm so glad to hear it! I'll take a break from running when my husband and I go on vacation. Glad that (hopefully) my legs will cooperate when I get back into it. :)

Good to hear that! I am determind to get a good run in this week. I want to do a 10 K in May and I know I can if I start this week (start training, not start running and get there by may, he he)

It is supposed to be mid-50's saturday, which is perfect out-door running temp in my opinion, so I will set off, but I am cautiously optimistic, as it snowed off and on all day today...

I love that running shirt, what brand is it?

(with a skeptical eyebrow raising...)

Yeah, but how 'bout NINE MONTHS of leg-vacation??? I'm sure counting on Muscle Memory.

I love spring/fall running!

oh i love that shirt. just went running yesterday and did hills at the park. oh man it felt good! i have this cool trick i do with my ipod touch, i run the headphone wire through my arm sleeve and then the shirt is so tight it keeps the ipod against my wrist.

super cool! if your up for a run when you come out, let me know!

That is great! For me, it's the second run after a long break that kills me off. I hope your second run proves to be different than my experience!!

Yesterday it was about 35 here, you would have needed your jacket! I'm glad your legs remembered what to do. Sometimes I wonder if mine would be able to run even if a murderer was chasing me...

That's so awesome that you did better than you expected to do, what a blessing, that's great for the morale eh? I felt like that when I went back to the gym too, I was so amazed I could do as much as I could do.
