swallowing my pride.

This was a letter I emailed my friends today.
...............
Hi gals.
So I know we all get callings in the church for different reasons and I think I have figured out one of the reasons that I get the chance to go to girls camp this year. So I will learn to ask my friends for help. Going against past behavior of thinking I can do everything myself - I am asking for help with my girls during the week of girls camp.

5 reasons why watching my girls will not ruin your summer

1. you can give them a bag of m&m's and they will be happy all day.
2. the are very entertained by t.v.
3. they never act as rowdy as they do in Sacrament meeting
4. turn on the radio and they are very entertaining to watch dance to music
5. their mom always feels like she needs to give people that watch her kids something tied up with polka dot ribbon, so chances are you will get a cute bar of soap for helping out.

So, if you think you might be able to help out even for just a few hours (or know someone who also might be available) Jeff and I that week I would be so grateful. (swallow pride now!)

Monday 10:00am - 6:00 pm
Tuesday 5:30 am - 6:00 pm Yikes!
Wednesday Jeff is trying to take this day off
Thursday 5:30 am - 1:00 pm
Friday 5:30 am - 3:00 or 4:00 whenever we get home from camp

Sincerely, A very humbled Kristi
{gulp}

So how did I do? This is a big step for me!
Anyone want a free hotel (my basement) in the D.C area for a week.
My kids know the city by heart and will give you a free tour!

When's camp? I've always wanted to visit D.C.

Can you hear the applause from down here in TX? Good for you Kristi--I know this was a huge deal for you(and it would be for me too). I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the willingness of your friends nearby to help.

I wonder how much airfare is...:)

I would love to have your girls for the week. My two would have so much fun with yours! Of course, you would have to send them on a plane to Arizona. Even though it's hot, we would have such a good time. It's too bad I don't live in the East.

If I lived closer...I'd truly help you out in a heartbeat!

Nice work. I wonder if that exercise gets easier with training?
I am feeling very grateful right now that Ken can take all the time off that I'll be at camp this year.

My gut was getting queasy just reading your plea. I too have the "won't ask for help but will do anything for anyone else syndrome".
Have a great time! My favorite thing about camp was hanging out with girls that I didn't have to brush their teeth or get them dressed. Enjoy.

I'd come in a heartbeat...we could make fabulous fused glass pieces, quilt and site see to our hearts content...

And, if I brought all my kids everyone would have a playmate..plus it helps that I've never seen your kids at church before:) Couldn't be as bad as Bryant on Sunday....

And who doesn't love a bag of M&M's?

i can only imagine what a huge deal this must be for you. i know it would be for me. i'm totally an "i can do it all, & i'll do it by myself" kinda girl. but i bet you already have a zillion offers. without even "knowing" you, i know that you are an incredible gal & are definitely surrounded by amazing people who are willing to help.

Kristi- good for you! So glad you are asking for help. If I were there I'd watch your girls in a heartbeat. I'd love to watch the three of them dance around!

When is camp? How are the preparations coming? You are going to be so great, they are going to love you and have a life defining time there, I just know it.

You did great! I bet you will have more offers for help than you have time slots to fill!
I would totally help out if we weren't moving to California!
Hope camp goes great!

I can totally sympathize with how difficult this was, Kristi. I hate asking for help as well. It's a life lesson that keeps coming back to me... I hope you get plenty of takers!

I think it's great that you swallowed your pride and asked for help this way. It will be a great way for your friends to do some service and hopefully will take a lot of stress off of you.

I have had to do this 3 summers in a row beg for someone to take my boys while at camp and trek. I was relived in a way when I was asked to be the Primary President....no girls camp!!! I still got called to go this year but kindly said no. My daughter can't go this year and I don't want to go without her.

I would love to come and watch your girls.....if I had a way back there I would be there in a heart beat! The DC area is one of the places that I have wanted to visit for a long time....I would have to bring an 8 and 11 year old boys and maybe a 16 year old with me. Good luck :)!

That is such a big step! Good for you.

It's definitely hard to ask people for help. But I've realized that it makes other people feel good to help! So I think everyone benefits.

Hey Kristi, I can watch your girls on Monday. I can't do the 5:30, but I can do 10:00 until 6:00. Coleman has scout camp that week so your girls will be forced to play with Gabe and Tate. I will call you today.
