Not a Snow day but a Tornado Day

So today we woke up to beautiful blue skies and hot as all get out. Many of the schools in our country were out of power so they cancelled school for all the schools in our county.
Annie Kate came downstairs for breakfast and I had a box on her plate.
To Annie Kate From Mr. Chep (her principal)
Inside the box was a note saying "No school today!"
It was almost hard to believe with how beautiful it was outside that there would be a reason school would be cancelled due to weather.
We still have a week left of school (murmur, murmur) so I was so happy to have a whole day to just spend at the pool.
We got there at 11:00 and didn't leave until 5:00. Sally Jane took a hour and a half nap on the cement holding a snickers candy bar, Caroline swam like a fish and Annie Kate has a white hand print on her red back where I actually got some sunscreen on her. We are all burnt to a crisp.
I am pushing through These is My Words - good thing I read the second book so I know someone actually lives past chapter 3 - wow this first part is so sad and depressing - but due to so many recommendations I am going to go on!

The aloe Vera spray stuff is a lifesaver. I am so old I remember buying an Aloe Vera plant and squeezing the stuff out to put on a sunburn, now it comes in a aerosol.
So we survived the 5 tornado's (nothing really close to us) and the thought of having AK go to school tomorrow makes me sad - it should be summer time.

(really sad I didn't have my camera today - the sleeping with a snickers bar in the sun was a priceless photo)

It is good to here that you are all ok...so sad to see you swing down. How great to have an early summer day at the pool...here in NC it will be 100 all week, almost too hot for the pool!

These is my Words gets much better. I've read all three in the series and I liked them all, Sarah's quilt was kind of slow and Star Garden kind of dragged a little until the last half. Sarah is such a great heroine, I could never be as strong as she was.

Glad you guys are ok and no school, that is always a nice treat too! My tykes don't get out till the 20th! I am with you on it being summer, no more school. They are all out in the west, but no we get to make up snow days, and still all start school at the same time next year!

What in the world? School is canceled but you can spend the day at the pool? That's bizarre.

My kids both got burned at the water park on Monday too, I guess I'll have to have them reapply the sunscreen more than twice during the day.

I have heard that preparation H takes the sting out of a sunburn!

what a great way to spend an unscheduled day off from school!

i remember in my first week of school in montgomery county, we had a 2 hour delay because of heavy rain. i couldn't believe it! (after so many years of living in NY without even so much as a snow day!)

the first 50 or so pages of These Is My Words was a real slow struggle...but then I couldn't put it down! I love the dedication too at the beginning of the book.

Glad you survived the awful weather and got to spend a day at the pool! We're in school until the 20th here. That's 1/3 of the summer!

yuck for not getting out of school yet...Carly has been out for over 2 weeks and is already in a summer state of mind. of course a week at the beach will do that to you. sorry about the sunburn. i hate being sunburn, it is just miserable. i try so hard to keep it from happening, but sometimes it does.

We grew up in Hawaii and had a few Aloe Plants that we would cut and squeeze on our sunburns!

Sleeping in the sun with a Snickers - that is one for the books. I always get fried, even though I put on sunscreen and reapply. I love aloe!
