run for my money

I have no idea what the term "giving me a run for my money" really means,
I just know it seems like the right thing to say today.
Today on the way home from carpool for preschool
she told my friend that a baby comes out of the Agina not the bum like her son had said.

Then as she was extremely mad going to bed,
while growling her prayers, she screamed the word Poo Poo! instead of the word Amen.

Out of the mouth of babes,eh?

Your post made me wonder how that, and other phrases, came to be. 1984 and it still is used today! Amazing! The internet is a wonderful thing!

A run for the money - -

"A close contest or a strong competition, as in We may not win the game, but let's give them a run for their money. This term probably comes from horse racing, where one may get considerable pleasure from watching the race even if one does not win much. Its first recorded use was in 1874."

I can laugh at that. But only because I am laughing with you and not at you. My 3rd, "the baby" we call her, even though she is almost 3, is also "giving me a run for my money". She decided 2 weeks ago, she would no longer sleep in her crib, and then that she would no longer sleep. Two nights this week, in the middle of the night, I have found her in the pantry, having a snack. I figure by the age of 7, she will be hotwiring the car!
