no t.v.

today marks our 2 weeks of no tv. I can't believe we have not turned it back on after our Easter week. It amazes me. We asked Annie Kate tonight if she has missed it and she said she didn't realize she hasn't watched it.
Our lives have really changed in two weeks. Yesterday after church the babies were in bed and the three of us sat in the living room and each read our book. (i am sure this is what most of you do on sunday but for us this was a huge change) every night jeff and I are dying to get the kids in bed so we can get reading.
We listen to a lot more music, sing more as a family, play more outside, make more crafts (oh yikes) watch the stars on the trampoline.
It has been a great change for us. Caroline has watched some disney movies she has never seen like Dumbo and Aristocats. but we don't watch anything in the morning like we used to.
i realize how much i used the tv as a baby sitter.
The kids play with their toys more.
Huge change for our family!

You really deserve a hearty kudos for throwing the tv out. Adam and I talk about it, but haven't made the leap. Congrats on 2 weeks.

I'm so impressed that you've gone 2 week without the tv. We did 5 days and were so glad when they were over. We did fine on the days we weren't watching, but now don't want to go back to the experiment. I think it was a good thing to try, and I liked the way we used our time together, especially at night. We have always limited tv watching for the kids, so they aren't out of control with it, but it was interesting to see how it affected me and Randy.

Very impressive. I don't even want to try it! I'm so excited that you're enjoying reading now.

Its really cool you have done this. I do admit I use the TV as a babysitter, but am very confindent in the amount they watch. There are too many activities going so it is mainly in the morning. Look at me trying to justify it. Anyway what ever work i think is great. BTW did you know it is national turn off your tv week. I read it in Bella's school newsletter. looks like you and jill were ahead of the game.

You and Jill have inspired me. I have cut way back on our daytime TV, I too use it as a babysitter! But I am finding myself playing outside with the girls, getting back to our walks etc! My husband and I still watch our "shows" after the kids are in bed...we have to take baby steps! But thanks for the idea and I am so happy that is working so well for you!

Wow! Jeremy and I took the first step to at least severely lessening our TV watching. We deleted half of out season passes in our TiVo (the show the just automatically record each week) We had 20! Yes, we watched 20 shows. Now we have 11--5 of which are mine alone. I'll try to slowly wean myself. I do't think I can go cold turkey. Maybe over the summer. . .
