Bring on the Dentist.
It is lucky that all of us have cleanings next week because our teeth are going to need them. I can not believe how much candy we have in our house right now. One of the local dentists pays $1.00 per pound of candy, maybe I should go cash in today.

We had a great night. Our neighborhood is the dreamy Normal Rockwell scene for sure. I actually drove around the neighborhood yesterday and took photos of a bunch of the houses, because everyone goes all out.

In true holiday form in our house I got the too familiar phone call that Jeff was not going to make it. He was stuck in the operating room. So I moped around the house for a minute, went outside and chopped wood and then counted to 10 and then got over it. But right before we left we got the mail which had cute Halloween cards from Mimi. They had $5.00 in it. In true Caroline form she turned the money over and said, "Mom who is sitting in there {The Lincoln Memorial} is it George Washington... No... it is Lincoln!"
We had a Halloweenie Party with some neighbors cooking "weenies"/hotdogs and to take photos of the kids. The food was so yummy and warm. I took Michelle's yummy apple dip (it was oh so good) We took photos and then headed out for the goods.
This was really Caroline's year to get what was going on. She was so funny and just in heaven.

I took some photos of the kids actually trick-o-treating this year, which I have never done. I would love to have got more, but pushing the sleigh,(as my brother Adam would call it) helping Caroline keep up with the big kids and take photos... oh what a sight.

This was a house were this lady sat on her porch and told fortunes and read palms. She would say "Do you want to have your palms read?" and then put red paint on your hand. she was so cute and really made it fun for the kids.

I had to take a photo of this girl. When I was in first grade I was a die. It was the worst costume. Because at the school party I couldn't do anything because my arms were struck straight out. As much as I make fun of this costume I actually remember making it with my dad and my mom coming to the school to help me put it on.

Jeff met up with us before the little girls got pooped out. By this time Caroline was just getting wheeled from door to door like a true princess. I did feel so bad he missed the fun. It took him an hour to come home in traffic and he felt so bad that three of the residents missed Halloween with their family too. ( I love this coming out of the residency thing he shows signs of sensitivity all over the place)

I loved how a lot of our neighbors really dressed up. As for my costume, the fake eyelashes and light up necklace. I could not get the eyelashes on and the light up necklace did not light up! I have learned my lesson, no more costumes.

This is our neighbor Bob and is actually totally Incredible!

After the girls went to bed Annie Kate and I went to yet another party with some families at church. All the kids ran around in the basement while the parents recouped. We got on the subject of things to do in D.C. and someone said lets see if we can name a monument or Smithsonian that the Cutler's have not been to. I have to say I was proud that they could only name three places we had not been to yet.
As we were leaving Annie Kate said, "This is the best night ever!"

Jeff and I did get sad about our days on Glastonbury and thought of what everyone was doing. We miss our days in the garage eating soup while the kids come to trick or treat. Glastonbury Gang we love you and miss you so much!!

Annie Kate with her stash. By the time we got home from the party it was late and Jeff was asleep, so she didn't have to pay her regular "Dad Tax" (where Jeff takes his favorites and lets her have the rest)
She never eats her candy. Every year it sits around for a few days and then goes in the trash. I do have a friend who cans it in large cans for food storage. I may put it in the freezer this year.

I hope your Halloween was wonderful, spooky
photos of night.

What a fun neighborhood, you know how to pick them.

An idea for you for the candy, a fun tradition we started and let me tell you one the kids look forward to more than candy. Every year they get to go TOT and than the next day they pick out some of their favorites (a small sandwich bag size pile). Than we gather all the candy and put it on the front door for the Great Pumpkin to come and trade for a really nice book. I have loved this tradition since my kids get the joy of TOT eating some of their candy. They have actually already sorted their candy and put the rest in a bag waiting for tonight. We love the great pumpkin.

Sounds like you had a great night! the girls look adorable and I know what you mean about the three year olds finally getting into it. Emma had a blast, struggling to keep up. Riley was having such a great time, I felt like a broken record "don't run, don't run" then wouldn't you know it, on the way home to our house (my parents giving out candy for us) he fell and got blood all over his shark teeth and is full of facial scabs, scratches and a fat lip. His worst injury to date! In the moment, he said he never wants candy or to trick or treat again. Poor guy. So this was one halloween to remember :(

Sounds like it was a fun night! I took pictures of my kids trick or treating last year, but didn't have good luck this year. It is fun to do!

Why doesn't Annie Kate eat the candy? What in the world? My kids eat theirs and make it last for months, it's a source of pride for them. They've already brought me all of their Twix bars because they know I love them.

Your photos look cute, the costumes turned out great. I'll have to go back and read your other posts when I finish my book club book, I shouldn't be blogging right now.

What a fun Halloween. Your costumes all turned out so cute-- I love them.

I was very impressed with your reaction when Jeff called and told you he was stuck in surgery. I need to learn from your example, I get so bummed when Eric misses important things because he is stuck at the hospital.

What a great day! You sure know how to do Halloween! I love the pictures and that you had so many parties/festivities to go to. I can't wait to see what your neighborhood looks like for Christmas, I bet it is total Norman Rockwell for sure!
The costumes all turned out beautifully!

So funny that Caroline ended the evening being wheeled from door to door, Liam ended up doing the exact same thing in our stroller while someone in our group held Asher for me! So Cute!
Bevan also was absent last night, it is hard work escorting kids from door to door all night...and you have one more than me plus I sure didn't make any of our costumes! I am pooped today, so I can't imagine how tired you guys all are! Looks like it was worth the fun though! (P.S. Liam won't eat his candy either, bad news for me!)

Looks like you all had a wonderful time. :)

I dream of living in a close knit neighborhood like them someday....

And you did such a great job with the costumes. It looks like everyone really goes all out for costumes in Annie Kate's school. Very unlike the school where my boys go now.

OUr candy seems to last until the next Halloween too. I love the Great Pumpkin suggestion-maybe we will place the un-favorites in out Halloween pillowcase for the disappearing act. I have heard that some children's hospitals and other children's charities accept candy donations too. I know how you feel-Halloween is just too close to election night to expect that Mike will be with us. No luck this year. The owners of the original "Ghostbuster Mobile" live in our neighborhood so we did get our annual treat of hearing "Who you gonna call..." roaring through our streets on the way home from the spooky evening!

Such cute photos. Like everyone else, I love your costumes, they turned out great! Miriam would be totally happy to eat each piece of candy as she received it. I have to lay down the law and beg her to eat normal food. I have to say though...I am the same way so I guess it's in her blood.

Man you know how to celebrate Halloween. I am really glad Jeff was able to make it after all.

Love the costumes.

Fun night! How do you end up on such great streets? Half of the houses on my street had their lights off--nobody home. Of course most of them were on my end, so we didn't get very many trick or treaters. Oh well. Maybe next year!

I think I commented before (but just in case I didn't) the kids costumes look amazing! You're my role model! I'm determined to learn how to follow a pattern so I can make Halloween costumes next year! Maybe it will help me bond with a woman in my ward, too.

By the way--Katie, I love your Haloween tradiion of giving the candy to the great pumpkin in exchange for a book. Any excuse to buy a new book for my kids is a good one!
