Goodwill to all, but mostly me!

I always make a trip to Goodwill the week before Christmas to find any last minute treasures for gifts for the girls. Last year Sally Jane's entire Christmas came from Goodwill.
Sally Jane's gifts 2005
total spent about $5.00
I am a bargain girl at heart. Someone asked me once if I thought I would still shop at thrift stores and garage sales even if I didn't have to and the answer is "oh yea baby!"
So once again the Goodwill proved to be worth my time. Here are some of my treasures.
Old rocking horse that I am sure is banned to be around small children. It is in mint condition and the little girls were with me and could not get off of it!
$15.00
Schwinn bike for Caroline. Excellent condition and has princess bell and horn.
$10.00
and I found a brand new childsize helmet for Sally Jane from Bell for $2.00
This is a pair of curtains with toile all from scenes of the Revolutionary war. Yes that is George Washington crossing the Delaware! It is great fabric and I may just make a skirt out of it, hey kind of like the Sound of Music.
$3.00I don't know what this is called but my mom has one. She makes Tostada Compuestas every year for Christmas dinner. They are INCREDIBLE! She uses this to strain the red chili and I think make the shell cups. I don't know how to make them, but now I have no excuse to not learn how.
$1.99This is a Candlewick glass dish. I thought it was so funny because it still had the garage sale sticker on it for $30.00. I got it for
$1.97This vintage pink twin size quilt was calling to me. It is beautiful almost a chenille. It is a true bed spread like what your Grandma would have had. I can't decide if I am going to cut it up to make something for spring or leave it as is..
$3.00

These are awesome. I could only find 11, but they are handpainted Turkey napkin ring holder carved out of wood. They are all the same but one, who is Tom the Turkey.
$.29 each
Three brand new pink frames, are those calling out to me or what?
$1.97 each
This was one of those finds that you want to shout when you find it. It is a silver serving tray.
Just needs a little polish and it will be perfect.
$3.00But here was my ultimate find and may even be better then the 30 vintage Martha Stewart green cafeteria trays I found at Goodwill, these are 27 glass serving trays. My neighbor has a set of these that she used to serve dessert on at our last book club and I was telling her of my fond affection for them. Half of them have a star cut in the class and the other half are stripped. No chips or breaks. From what I have figured is that they are made by Imperial Glass company or Hazel Atlas Orchard Crystal and patterned after the Candlewick glass pattern. They are the perfect luncheon serving tray or for a baby shower... oh the possibilities. and are you ready for this..
$.79 each!

I just love old things like this that you can't even buy things at cool stores. It is making me want to have a luncheon at my house!

So yes most of the items were for me, I did get Annie Kate this awesome European fireman house set with all the guys for $3.00, I think she will like it. But it was a fun day at Goodwill and I didn't even get a chance to look at the clothes.

Are you a thrift shopper?
Would you ever buy your child a used gift?

I am so jealous of the horse! I remembering riding one as a kid and loving it. Our nursery at church has one and it is the only way most kids will stay when they first start going. I go to Goodwill and only find obvious things. You always find the "hidden treasures". I did just find a huge red round wood platter for $1.99 that I have on my kitchen table for the holidays. How often to you go to Goodwill? Maybe I don't go often enough...

Those glass trays are amazing!! My kids love those bouncing horses. My in laws have one and it is always a fight to see who can get on it first. Merry Christmas!I have never been into Goodwill before, but I think I better start!

I would by my children used toys and clothes but I just don't have the patience for goodwill and garage sales. I look for deals in the stores but I don't find stuff like you do when I go to goodwill

Great finds! I never have the patience to sort through things at Goodwill. I usually just go there when I need to get rid of things that belong to us, but maybe I'll shop next time I'm dumpin gour stuff off.
Love the horse. You can't buy those anymore. My Motherinlaw tried to buy one on ebay last year and quit when the bidding went over $300. I can't beleive those serving trays were so cheap. That is awesome.

Oh how I love your finds. I was always on that kind of horse as a kid and have borrowed one for my kids b/c they don't make them like that anymore. I also love Candlewick!

Thank you for your very sweet compliment Kristi. Wouldn't I love being neighbors with you too!

I like finding bargains and have no problem giving a gift from somewhere like Goodwill or DI (hence my love affair with DI books this year). I just can't imagine finding so many awesome things like you do. It must be because Mormons are cheap because our DI's don't have things like that. You scored!!

Kristi, believe it or not, but those chili strainers are rather rare and if it is old enough and in good condition, it could be worth a few hundred bucks! I have been dying to find one, and for 1.99 is incredible.

I am duly impressed! I am going ot have to make a trip to goodwill to purchase instead of just dropping stuff off--I've actually never even been inside! You've once again inspired me.

Wow... those serving trays, what a score. My last trip to Goodwill was to get trinkets for snow globes (or maybe it was to buy belts for bag handles...) nevertheless, this woman was grabbing a group of ceramic Christmas houses for her mantle. There were probably 15 of them - she was nearly crying with glee as she saved hundreds of dollars. Love, love Goodwill.

Absolutely and absolutely and my goodness, what finds you found! Bravo for you, Kristi!

I never thought of using that strainer for chili's. I've only used it for applesauce. Thanks for the new idea.

I love goodwill finds! And you totally scored! I have the strainer thing too but I use it to get rid of most of the seeds in raspberry jam. My kids don't like the 'rocks' but they love the jam! It does make a little less jam but worth it for me and my family. I never knew they were worth money, mine was free!

I have given my kids toys and books from Goodwill and they loved it just as much as new!

Yes, I am a thrift shopper and love it. Unfortunately I am at a stage in my life where it is difficult to get there as often as I would like. I also am addicted to children's consignment shops. I buy my children used gifts every year, especially when they are little and don't know the difference. Since I have six kids I often wrap hand me down toys. My two oldest are boys, then three girls, then my youngest is a boy. Last year my youngest got my oldest son's Thomas the Tank set.

All of my kids clothes are from thrift stores. I love to walk in and find a whole cute wardrobe that somebody donated in perfect condition. I just can't buy their clothes from regular stores not knowing I can get just as cute stuff for $1.00 or $2.00. Love your finds.
