Library Pockets

I have had a lot of emails today about where to get library pockets. I bought mine at a teacher supply store in TN. Here is a website that has every color and even polka dots. There are so many projects these could be used for, if you come up with any great ones let us all know. But here is an idea from my mother in law (Sharon, do fill in any details)

One Christmas my mother in law made for her own kids a library with their own books. You can buy also for this company library cards and get a date stamp where your kids could stamp it each time they finish the book. If you bought the plain library pockets to put in all your kids books the whole project would only cost you about $10.00 to put 35 books in a library system.

This makes a great gift to give the pockets, cards and a date stamp all packaged in a box.

I found this template online for anyone who wants to make their own library pockets:

Hi -- I didn't have any real "library pockets" so I cut envelopes in half and the kids glued the envelope pockets into the books with the finished side of the envelope facing out. They used 3 x 5 cards to put in the "library" book pocket, and then we had a library box where they would put the cards in when someone "checked out" the book. The date stamp came from an office supply store. They would use a blank card to put the date stamp on in the book. It was a simple thing for me to do, but it kept the children busy for many hours, typing the names of the books on the cards, etc. They had a great time with it. We still have books with the library cards in them these many years later!!

Ah, I miss the old library pockets and date stamps. Our library is all barcodes now. So sterile!

I used to love the old 'thump' sound of the librarian stamp. Now all you hear is 'beep! beep! beep!'

It's good of you to pass on all these links, Kristi, after so many queries!

Those are so cute. Of course I see them as potential card projects, but an actual library would be good too. I'd need way more than 35 for my kids' books though.

such a cute idea. last night, jack had me call my mother to tell her that he had gotten his own copy of "fox in sox" so she didn't have to get it out of the library anymore! how cute would it be for her to have a library at her house? thanks for the ideas.

LOVE this idea. I have some extreme readers in my home and this will be fun for them to track their reading. I just ordered them. Thanks for the creative idea and link! Yahoo!
