Happy Birthday Mom. I am sorry I am just so tired I don't have time to write a birthday wish or put any photos on. I didn't send a card or have time to call, I will try to get to it. Hope it is a good day.

The Holiday Queen celebrates a birthday.

I love Holidays and I love traditions. On my profile it says, "I was raised in a home full of traditions" It is all thanks to my Mom,
My mom loves Holidays, traditions and has always been a good mail sender. Today is her birthday. A April fools baby. This is a cool photo of my mom 2 months before delivering her first baby fishing at
Rat Lake in Montana.

One of the things that I think is so cool about my Mom is that she lived in one house her whole life. She is very generous and has always been aware of celebrations. I don't think she has missed many years where she has not sent me a Happy Anniversary card for the day I got married.

She still remembers this awesome poem from her childhood about a humajuma Genie and thing-a-ma-jigs. We have got to write that down!

She knows how to make many things from scratch. Some are..
  • Great Cinnamon Rolls
  • Baklava
  • Ravioli's
  • Dinner Rolls
  • Egg Rolls
  • Tostada Compeustas. oh my these are the best!
One of my favorite stories of my mom is that when I was in High School she sold a car to pay off any credit card debt our family had. We had 1 Volkswagen rabbit for 8 people. My dad rode his bike to work. I can't figure out how we all got to church. Once the debt was paid, we got another car. Really kind of amazing.

There were a lot of things I wanted to list but didn't know if I knew the answers. So, Mom you get to take a little 5 question quiz for your birthday and put the answers in my comments.

  1. What is your favorite book?
  2. What is your favorite Hymn?
  3. What was the name of that cute little place you got sodas after school?
  4. Where did the lullaby Neena, Nina, Neena, Nina Poopa song come from? I have sung that to all my kids.
  5. What is your favorite holiday?

Happy Birthday Mom. I hope you have a great day!

You got me, for sure. I couldn't believe you wouldn't post more for your mom's birthday! It actually took me a minute to wonder why there was so much blank space in your post -- duh!

How appropriate for your fun, holiday-loving mother to have an April Fool's Day birthday... happy birthday, Ruth!

p.s. Kristi, great idea to have a quiz for your mom to answer.

What a beautiful Mom!! And how appropriate since she is a holiday lover that she was born on April Fools Day!!

I did not get fooled by your joke for 2 reasons. 1.) I know you are not that insensitive.
2.) I had already read Jenny's blog and got FOOLED so I was expecting this!! ha ha!!

Happy Birthday to your Mother!

Happy Birthday you your mum, Kristi! I think your quiz is a lovley idea. It's great to be still learning things about our mums, even when we have grown and become mothers ourselves.

I'm so gullible. I get fooled every time.

My college roommate's birthday is April 1st. She didn't really like it as a birthday - way too many gag gifts over the years... Does your mom like having a birthday on April Fools' Day?

Well, wouldn't you know it, I was the one Fooled!. I was out of town for the weekend and didn't get to see this post on April 1st. So I checked last night when I got home and read about Sally Jane's birthday fun. Kristi had called me on my birthday, so I wasn't totally surprised she didn't post anything about my birthday because she did last year. Then today, Tues. the 3rd, I checked her blog again and saw this post, and that it was an April Fool's joke. I laughed so hard that I started to cry. Then I read all of the kind comments, to boot, and really cried. Thank you so much everyone. Kristi exaggerates about my holiday talents, but then I love her for it! As for the answer to her questions:

l. My favorite book of all time is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. I never wanted it to end.
2. My favorite hymn is Because I Have Been Given Much. I can't even sing it without tears.
3. On our home from high school during the 60's my girlfriend Jane and I would stop at a little malt shop across from the junior college called the Milky Way. We always bought a single peanut butter cup for 15 cents each, and they were a little larger then. We walked a mile home, so it didn't add on the pounds in those days, like it does now. How did that happen?
4. The song, Nena Nina Poopa, however it is spelled was one that my sister Helen learned when she married into the Platis family. It is a Greek or Austrian song. I'll have to ask her someday. I've sung it to all my kids, and grandkids who allow me to rock them.
5.My favorite holiday until a few years ago was Christmas. I always wanted the entire house to be decorated more and more each year. My mother always had the most beautiful flocked or painted trees, and just decorating together to Christmas music was enchanting. And I loved buying gifts for the kids and everyone else. I loved to really surprise them, but probably didn't.
Now I think my favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because it is more relaxing with the family, and not about presents.
Thanks again. I love all of your blogs because I too am a lurker!
