not so good news for good mail

did you know the price of stamps is increasing? On May 14th the cost of a $.39 cent stamp will go to .41 cents.

CNN Money:

Beginning in May, U.S. consumers will be able to buy a "forever" stamp for 41 cents that remains valid regardless of a future increase, and the price of a first-class stamp will rise to 41 cents from 39 cents, the board of the U.S. Postal Service decided Monday.

The "forever" stamp is designed as a convenience for consumers, said Board of Governors Chairman James Miller, because they will not have to buy additional stamps on the next price increase.

So if you have any cute favorite stamps buy them up because they will be gone. I stocked up on my Birthday stamps, in case it takes a while for them to reissue them.

I didn't know the stamp cost was increasing. I swear they just increased the cost of stamps. Interesting idea on the forever stamp, though.

This is definitely some sad news. I don't know why 2 cents more seems so much pricier, but it does. I still feel grateful that I can have mail taken all the way across the country to you for only 41 cents though, that's kind of amazing really.

Kristi-

Thank you so much for commenting on my post - and so quickly!! It was like the blog celebrity answering my fan mail. After reading so much of your blog and realizing how down to earth you are, I shouldn't be suprised but...I'm honored!! I have so much I want to say that I will use bullet points!! He He
. So jealous you live in D.C. area. My husband served his mission there, and I lived there for a semester of my Jr. year in High School working as a Senate Page. (the only come-on I recieved was from McCain)

. Ribbon outlet...Dangerous!

. How do I print my blog?

. My house is usually tidy, but not clean. Cooking? What exactly is that?

. What is good mail, and self portrait Tuesdays?

I'm sure I'll have more for you as my bloggin world expands. Thanks again for your thoughts!

I was just going to say what an amazing deal it still is...even if it has broken through that next 10 cent increment.
It seems a bigger jump than $.37 to $.39 because that first number actually changes.

I still love that priority mail will go anywhere in the nation in just 2 days for under $5.

And good mail is SOOOO worth it!

I will be looking at stamps to stock up on.
I hadn't thought about that.
Thanks for the heads up.

Our Royal Mail stamps go up and up and up so many times, it makes me dizzy.

I feel like forwarding a link of that CNN Money story to our Royal Mail PR dept and see what they say. We should have a British equivalent to that!!

Funny, I actually knew about the American postage increase and forever stamps, I don't know how.

Good news for good mail: I got your Easter card today, thank you! It's adorable.

My grandma is the Post office guru and told me this yesterday. She told me about the liberty bell as well. Part of me didn't want to believe her. I couldn't believe my ears!! I am so sad since I just bought a slew of stamps (hersey ones ta boot!)

The question is why can't they make it simple and do even amounts like 40 cents or 50 cents?

I read about the forever stamp and thought this was a good idea. I just hope they come in all the great styles.

a serious bummer. I never understand why they keep increasing it.

my 2 cent stamps will be put to good use

I know it is so annoying! I think they should just raise it 10 cents and be done with it for at least a few years. I do like that Liberty bell stamp though.

I had no idea. I don't really understand the forever stamp idea -- there will eventually be another increase, so how does it stay valid forever? Just add more of the additional postage?
