First Birthday!
see any resemblance with my girls?

Happy Birthday Grammy!

Today is my mother in law's birthday.

I hope she checks my blog today so she can answer my traditional (ok so it's only my second time) birthday questionnaire.

Grammy is one talented lady. She is an incredible seamstress. Whatever she sews looks as great on the back as it does on the front. She sewed all of her daughters wedding dresses! she has even made Jeff a pair of ski pants! now that is amazing.Caroline's knitted dress 2006
She can knit, boy can she knit! this year each of my daughters got a hand knit outfit from her for their birthdays. Her Knitting store in St. GeorgeSally Jane's knitted outfit 2007

she raised 6 kids - 6 really great kids!
she is very hip and knows about anything at the makeup counter than I do. She always has the latest lipstick and even shares it with her granddaughtersShe is the inventor of the Gingerwood House. (25 years ago)Without Sharon there would never have been Pockets & Posies (my purse business)
She is the one who took my sketch of a $495 Kate Spade bag and taught me how to make them. Because of her I was able to sew for a living while Jeff was in school.
She has traveled the world. Here she is in Antartica!

She is a super fast typer incredible speller and loves to read!

Sharon, we love you and hope you have a wonderful day!

Here are your 5 birthday questions.
  1. who taught you how to sew, how old where you when you started?
  2. what parenting advice would you give to young moms
  3. where in the world that you have not been yet do you want to go to?
  4. what is our favorite book you have read and what are you currently reading?
  5. what is your favorite indulgence for dessert?

Kristi - I need to read more intently next time - I read this as your grandmother! Either way, she still seems like a wonderful lady! Sorry for the two comments!

Thank you for the nice birthday remembrance, and I love the picture of the girls wishing me a happy birthday. It has been a great day. I will try to answer the questions as best as I can.
1. My mother did a lot of sewing (that was her sewing
"duck"), and although I don't remember her sitting and teaching me, she did help. I had a sewing class in 7th grade, and I was not happy with the grey skirt I made for myself. I bought my first sewing machine after my freshman year of college -- still use it when visiting our daughter. The best learning for sewing was sewing clothing for our children -- just grew up sewing as they grew up.
2. Parenting advice -- don't sweat the small stuff, enjoy your children at whatever stage they are in, and choose battles wisely--not every battle is worthy of being a world war.
3. I would love to go to Israel, but I don't know if that will ever happen. Next I would like to go to China.
4. Just finished reading Pearl Buck's Trilogy: The Good Earth, The Sons and House Divided. I have several favorite books: The Hiding Place, These is My Words, Life and Death in Shanghai, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Too many good books out there to just pick a few.
5. Favorite dessert is just plain jamoca almond fudge ice cream. Of course Ben's Chili Bowl's Sweet Potato Pie is right up there!!!

This is a wonderful post, it's fun to get to know her better. She's clearly an amazing woman.

I love that you asked her questions and that she answered them! How wonderful. Happy Birthday Sharon!

A very sweet post. I love the photo of she and AK. That looks like it was taken around the time you guys moved to Franklin and in my mind, that's how old she will always be.

Does Grammy know that she also helped put others through school with her sewing expertise? Thanks Grammy, and happy birthday!

She sounds truly wonderful. My grandma always has the latest lipstick colors, too, and has shoes and clothes I wish I could wear, but she is way too tiny to share them! That bag you have pictured might just be the cutest thing ever.

Kristi brooke-
your mother-in-law is awesome. I live in Santa Clara (right next door to St.George,) and have been in her store many times. I love making "small world" connections.

I love your descriptions of her and her talents, now I really feel as if I know her.

Love Sharon's answers, what a fun idea to ask questions and then have the answers right at your finger tips!

I can see where you got some of your creativity, by osmosis!

Love, your pink and green blog!
