Newsies
This is hands down one of the best movies ever! The soundtrack is awesome. After watching it today with Annie Kate a few songs have made it on my running mix. It is directed by the director of High School Musical (counting down the day until August 17th when the second one comes out, don't even get me started about my fondness for Zack Efron. I just don't understand why they don't make t-shirt with his face on it for adults)
I have always had a dream of being in a musical, it actually made my 100 list about myself. I can't sing or dance so it will never happen. But I never watch a musical where I don't think, "I want to do that someday"
It came out in 1992 and starred Christian Bale who also stared in Batman returns.
This is really a great rental and an excellent soundtrack.
I am also reminded in a movie like this how much I love the special features of movies. The movie is not over to me until I watch the bonus features. I love the making of the movies sometimes more than the movie itself.

I haven't seen that movie in years, but remember that I absolutely loved it! Hmm - I think maybe I'll add it to my Netflix queue right now ;) Thanks for the reminder!
One of my personal faves (we used to watch it on sundays as a fam when it came out)...and we are High School Musical obsessed...check out our post about it: http://adventureswiththeprovosts.blogspot.com/2007/07/dear-auntie-jess-my-mom-said-that-i.html
And I like you, love musicals and wish I had the talent to be in one...I am going to see Wicked this weekend and will be singing along!! That's a great soundtrack too....
mique.
oh my my husband and I stood (we were not allowed to sit down) for 4 hours soaking wet outside the theatre, waiting for someone to not come and not use their tickets in NY to see wicked. it was worth every second.
what was so funny is we walked in looking like the dregs of the earth while everyone else seemed black tie. so great - have fun.
Newsies is where I fell in love with Christian Bale.
I love Newsies, but I had no idea it was the same director as High School Musical. I'm glad that director has come back to doing musicals for kids again.
Every time Nate says the word "Santa Fe", I break into song. "Santa Fe, are you there? Do you swear you won't forget me?..."
One of my kids favs! I'm sure the fact that my #2 son shares the same name as Christian Bale's charachter doesn't hurt. Just today my daughter and I drove by the real "East High School" here in SLC, and we were talking about how we were so excited for #2!! Kenny Ortega is a genius and I'm sure it will be great.
My cousin and I, as little girls, were obsessed with this movie! We would belt out the songs from the top of our lungs! We loved it and still do!!!!
I need to rent this for my girls to see. loved it! I had a roommate in utah that went to see it at the 1 dollar theater like 90 some times.. crazy! she was in love with those boys I think!
oh I have to say.. my girlfriend is having a hs musical party on the 17th - my girls are so excited.. I even have some hs musical cups left over from my emmalee's party! yeah!
I LOVE this movie too! "Open the gates and seize the day. Don't be afraid and don't delay"...I'm singing at the computer. And now that song will be in my head all night. I think I shall have to go put Newsies and High School Musical on my Netflix queue.
So jealous of anyone who has seen Wicked. I'm dying to see that show. Sold out too quickly in DC and we never made it to NYC. Ah me. Someday. "Tell them how I am defying gravity. Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity"....singing again.
I really hope you get a chance to perform in a musical someday, Kristi. So many of my happy memories center around them. If I weren't busy mothering right now, I would be in them. All the time. Again maybe someday.
awesome- you made me even more excited to see Wicked (and thankful I have tickets ;)- i can't wait!!!
Oh Christian Bale...now I want to rent this. The only problem? I sing it for weeks. Wait maybe that's only a problem for Milo. Now I want to watch it again!
I remember that movie, but have only seen it one time years ago.
Again, I didn't read the whole post, but it made me think. I have your Newsies Soundtrack, and should give it back to you.
This is an oldie. I watched this a million times as a kid.
This movie makes me think of my best guy friend in High school. We'd watch it together at his house, eat junk, and sing. It was awesome.
Your post made me miss him.
This is one of my all-time favorites as well! My kids love it too!
i love newsies!! they sling the papes like nobodies business!!
I did not remember Christian Bale being in that! Hmmmm, maybe I should go back and watch it again...
I was in one musical in high school and it was a highlight. I happen to love musicals!
