Halloween 2006

Halloween Costumes...

Oh my I can't believe I am already feeling the Halloween costume excitement/stress. I LOVE to sew my kids costumes but this year just may not be the year for me, so I am contemplating my options. So far Annie Kate wants to be an Indian girl even though I am trying to talk her into being Olive Oil - can you imagine how cute this costume could be!

Sleeping beauties foot last year in the Halloween parade,
which she ended not marching in but being carried

I am also trying to convince Caroline to be Sleeping Beauty for the next 4 years after all the work her dress was last year. She is teetering between a bumble bee, a princess of some sort or something with wings. I think Sleeping Beauty with wings could be a good compromise.

Sally Jane loves Cinderella and is a perfect fit for the costume - i just can't decide if I want to sew another child size prom dress, but the ones in the store are so glittery and stiff, I would love to make one out of cotton and with a white scalloped peekaboo skirt.

But I am excited to share a website that I found today. I picked up an AWESOME Snow White costume at a consignment store for $12.99. It is handmade and beautiful. It has blue velvet on the bodice and purple sleeves - and just quality at it's best. I looked up the company and found out that it sells for $69.00. I know that sounds pricey but this is so well made. So here is the site Beastly Buddies, if you want to buy a WELL made costume or get great ideas of what your child could be.
I am also a big fan of costumes on EBAY, but shop now for the best prices

I'm so glad that I am not the only one who loves Halloween and starts planning early. I have my kiddos all confused that Halloween is sometime like...tomorrow because I talk about it all the time! My kids are still little enough that I can lead them to believe that they chose what they are going to be but really it was all my idea! I'm thinking little bugs this year. A bumble bee, a butterfly or caterpillar and a lady bug. They would be so cute!

I am totally feeling the halloween pinch too. I don't love sewing, but I feel like I need to make an annual effort at it, so I do halloween. I am thinking fireman for Carter, tiger for Aimee, and lobster (?) for Maxwell.

Good luck on yours!

I am Halloween obsessed so I love that you are already thinking costumes. I spent this last weekend buying fabric, trim and accessories that I could get started on my kids costumes. I have to get them done early because we have a big Halloween shindig coming up at our house with 100 people - I gotta get costumes done now so I can take care of party decor.

Have fun sewing!

I am already into Halloween Costumes -but not for us -for a charitable children's home here in Mesa. Our family is doing a 'costume drive' to benefit the littles living there (foster care).
Lisa did this when they were in San Antonio & it was a hit! Otherwise, the kids would have nothing festive to wear to their Harvest Party. Today, I collected the first donation of a couple costumes ;) yay. My kids will have fun sorting them and taking the load to the 'orphanage'. Janae

I love these great costumes. I don't have to worry about costumes, my only son is grown.
Thanks for the ideas, and for reminding others.

Kristi, Kristi, always thinking ahead. LOVE the website for the costumes, but my kids are now happy to dig through the costume box and make their own costume, for the most part. It was still fun to take a peek.

Did you see my post on all the great used costumes at the thrift stores?? They have a ton right now and I am getting lots and lots for dress up and Halloween. I haven't paid more than $3.99 and I just got 5 more today! Yes....I have an addiction! Help me!!

I can't think to Halloween yet, I've go the girls birthday party coming up at the end of this month. I am hoping to put together a pirate/princess party since nini refuses to be a princess and cici refuses to be a pirate, yet they share the same birthday Yikes! Anyway, so glad about finding that great snow white costume. Quite the find :)

We don't have any ideas for costumes yet. My boys are notorious for not deciding until the last minute -- argh! At least with Eva I can pretty much decide -- I hope. I've never looked for costumes on ebay, good idea!

I was thinking about Halloween costumes this week too, trying on some dresses and things I have on Alexis and brainstorming what she could be. Picking out what you want to be with unlimited options is half the fun.
I was so going to do pink Christmas this year and I just realized it's already September! And yep sign up was forever ago. So sad. Maybe next year I'll finally get on the ball about that one.

Our kids are at really fun dress up ages so my husband and I have started getting in on the costumes. Last year we were Peter Pan, a knocked up Wendy-I was pregnant-you probably got that, Tinkerbell, and Michael. This year we are going to be Daddy Warbucks, Grace, Annie, and Punjab. We are so excited! (I love seeing your ideas too.)

Kristi, my sister Helen said she bought some Disney wigs for her granddaughter at Big Lots. They are Cinderella and Snow White, ane were 5 dollars each. The Cinderella fits her granddaughter who is almost 2 and thought it would be too big. She said they are really cute. If you don't have a big lots, I could look here for you. Let me know.

I need to start thinking about costumes too because it always sneaks up on me. Whitney wants to be a cat this year, so that shouldn't be too hard, but I'm not sure about Landon. It's probably a good thing that Whitney isn't in to being a princess, because I'm definitely not a seamstress!

lisa is turning ryan into a girly spider, pretty cool. Lets just hope no one gets their candy stolen, or door blown up with a pipe bomb. Yeah as you may guess, I am not a fan of Halloween.

Thanks for the tips! I have been on the Halloween hunt already, also. I'm just a little bit Type-A (okay, a lotta bit), and I like the boys costumes to be at least the same theme, so we start early to get through with all the negotiating and still have time to find or make decent costumes!

If Caroline wants to be a bumblebee let me know and I will send you Mya's costume from last year if you want it! It is about a 3T. You can see it in my Oct 2006 archives- its the one my mom made. Let me know!

AK would be fab as Olive - I hope she does it.

We don't recognize Hallowe'en in our household - not the spirits and goriness anyway. We're hoping to organise a Light Party for the kids in Erin's bible study group instead.

But I love the costumes, go for it!
