5.5 for Ryan Shay

This morning I took the challenge to run 5.5 miles for Ryan Shay, who died on November 3 at mile 5.5 at the Olympic trials.
We are leaving early this morning for our Thanksgiving vacation and so for me to do this i knew I would have to be up by 5:45 am to get it in. I actually woke up before my alarm because I was excited to do it.
It was cold, cold, cold! But with the help of 3 layers, 2 unmatching gloves and my green coat it was just fine. Before I left I ran downstairs and grabbed a scrap of fabric and wrote "Running for Ryan 5.5" and pinned it on the back.
the challenge was to dedicate your run and think of his family but also your own family during your run. I thought most of the time of how grateful I am for experience of going to church downtown this year and what a blessing it has been for our family.
I listened to all of my slow songs on my idod and had a really awesome emotional run. Carrie Underwood's "I'll stand by you" got listened to more than once. I even high fived a cute grandpa out running.
The streets were more empty than they have been this summer and I enjoyed only seeing my feet on the street.

You. Go. Girl. Whoever thought of jogging to slow music so that you could gain more? I'm so glad you started running.

Awesome Kristi! Unfortunately I can't do the run but have recruited lots of friends to do so. I'll be thinking of him and his family today.

I love this. As if it's not amazing enough that you woke up BEFORE 5:45am because you were excited to run in the freezing cold, you did it for somebody else! You're going to start a blogger's running revolution, I just know it.

Jill is right now! I suspect you've already started the blogger's running revolution! You have inspired me, and as a result, have logged over 30 miles in the last two weeks (I was pretty sedetary before)! Nice work on fitting in the run pre-vaca! I have found 5:30am is the only time I can get my runs in and it, too involves lots of layers.

Love the ribbon sticks! They will be appreciated for sure.

Happy Thanksgiving!

What a treat to run for someone else and not for yourself.

Can you beleive I just started running & I twist my ankle and now have to wait? crud...I was starting to love that achy muscle, burning lungs feeling. Crazy, I know!

I am gonna make the plunge and sign up for a race in February. I am debating doing the safe realistic 5 mile trail run OR being crazy and going for the 1/2 marathon.

Love the ribbon idea by the way...looks cute as candy!

It's good to have this specific reason and motivation to do a run like that, but at the same time it's so sad that it has to be a memorial to Ryan Shay. I read about it briefly over here at the time. I'm sure, however, that he'd have been glad to see people using their running time like that for deep thought.

Ooooh, what are winter runs going to be like for you? You might get your clearest thoughts on a frosty run!

look at those great legs and cute behind---you are looking fantastic Kristi!! How about next week you do a 6 mile run in dedication for the 6 pounds I gained this month! haha

It's Juli Robinson. I ran 5.5 too, or I would have, but I became suddenly ill around mile 5. Sad to say I had to walk the last .5. (In the future, I'll be more careful about what I eat before I run. . . ) But it was a beautiful evening with the sun setting in New Mexico, which always takes my breath away, and maybe I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't had to stop and walk. And I almost ran over a jack rabbit. With my feet.
