anyone up for a project?

I just got the new Pottery Barn Kids/Baby catalog - DARLING! This calendar was in it. It is $59. I have their Halloween and Thanksgiving calendars and love them and they are very well made.
For some reason I am not totally sold on these colors or something about it. I realize if I attempt to make it I will not be saving any money but may spend more. So I would not be doing it for the cost factor. I think this idea is just great and am throwing around the idea of making one and giving myself awhile to finish it. I just love the idea of pockets to put little notes in and the holiday badges.
I have been wanting to do an online project with some gals and then have everyone show how theirs turned out and this could be great. Anyone up for making a family calendar? Or should I just save my pennies and buy it? I would be happy to come up with a pattern and do some photo tutorials...

description from the catalog
The abstract concepts of day and date start to become concrete when your child interacts with this hands-on calendar. Each date is a little pocket where treats, surprises or notes can be tucked. Special small icons mark big days like birthdays and holidays. Made of durable felt with cotton percale trim and a bottom pocket for storing icons. Corner grommets for wall-hanging.

I'm like you~I have the Halloween calendar and love it. I thought about doing a Christmas spin-off. I would do one with you.

OK, so how long would we have to do it, and I'm sure it's not hard and fast that we have to finish on time. I'd love to make a calendar, but I'm launching my bindery soon, so I'm not sure what my time's going to look like. I'l say I'm in conditionally. Still, I'd love to see yours and everyone else's even if I don't finish.

I love trying to make something that the big stores have in their catalogs. I am game. My aunt is making me the cool advent calendar that I saw last year at this site.

I love the pockets and colors etc.

YES! If you make up a pattern, I would gladly attempt to make it. Attempt being the key word here! :)

Cute that sounds so fun I am all about crafts but scrapbooking and cards are more my thing

I think the idea of an online craft is a fun one, but since I'm sewing and fabric impaired I'm just going to have to watch what you all do.

This would be a great project & I would be totally up to it-
I would love to see everyone's ideas & how the whole thing comes together.
I would even help Jill!
Or maybe we could have a paper version... so much to think about.

I love that! I would totally want to make one.

Does it have to be out of fabric?? Like Jill, I'm a bit fabric impaired....

I love it! I really, really want to do it with you. If you want to draft the pattern (or we could meet up and work on the pattern together, since I am near you) that would be great.
Let's do it!

I don't know that this will work for you, but I found it yesterday and thought it was too close to the one you liked not to share. You could use your computer and cardstock instead of stamps...and there is a ton of scrapbooking paper out there. Cost would probably be about $25...best guesstimate off the top of my head. Good luck!

I say make it. I think I'm a little overly emotional about these things, but being that my mom died, the things that I love are the things that she made, and that calendar is awesome. Plus, then you could customize it.

I like this idea although I just bought a wall calendar for the family and have no space for this. What I would really love ideas on how to make is a chore chart. I've been on the lookout for good ideas for 1 year now and haven't come up with anything great. I was thinking maybe something with those library pocket cards? laminated sticks inside them? something with felt? If you or anyone has ideas on this I would greatly appreciate it!

I would love to be involved but I have only ever done sewing in 7th grade home ec. Not sure my skills would translate well. But I could try.

I saw the same calendar in the Pottery Barn catalog and was thinking the same thing. I already have some major projects in the works for this year, I know it is only January 4th. However, I would love to eventually make one.

I too loved the calendar aaaand pretty much the whole catalog. The coloring reminded me of an old school classroom---chalkboard black, primary colors. I'm in to make one though! Especially if you throw in a few tutorials.

I just found some directions to make the Halloween advent. It might help you in making the newest one from Pottery Barn.

Hers turned out great, I would changed some of the colors. That is one of the pluses of doing it yourself.

I'd love to make a chore chart, but am creative impaired...I can copy stuff good though! I just can't come up with it on my own. Can't wait to see ideas!

I would make a chore chart. I need and use a calendar I can see the year at one time on my wall, be able to write on it, and live from it. I am too practical in that area.

I would love to do a chore chart, was planning on copying the ones that were on the pink christmas items. LOVED that idea. I also love the pottery barn idea on bulletin board calendar etc for the kids room. I have one that loves organization. So long story to say, I would love to participate. :-)

Hear, hear! I think you should apply yourself to a seamstress-based project now, after all that marathon running. I can't stand to think about your sore feet anymore!

I imagine you've long-neglected your quilting, Kristi, as you never speak of it - so this would be a good return to all the sewing.

I should, technically, say YES I'll have a stab at it, as I've just got my first sewing machine. But I've not even threaded the thing up yet, so I'm nervous to leap in to this.

Poor Jill et al and the lack of sewing skills. It makes me chuckle. I have visions of Jill stapling squares of felt together!

*eyes stapling gun with sudden inspiration...*

I made the Halloween calendar from Pottery Barn for only $24. ;) It was a huge project but so fun because I did it with 2 friends. I would recommend it for sure!

I saw that calendar and thought it would be fun to make too! I'm trying to come up with a pattern idea (I tend to make things much larger than original, though) but I've got a few projects until then. I like the idea of a "generic" chart/calendar that can be customized.
