Goldilocks got a haircut.

Sally Jane is a month shy of being three and has never had her hair cut. We have never had a girl with hair of gold or little locks. I have been the only one that has wanted to cut it for the past 6 months, I always get talked out of it by dad and Annie kate.
But this morning trying to comb through the thin, tangled baby hair that has been on that head for almost three years had to go.
I was thinking of taking her to The Yellow Balloon, a kids salon on main street, dressing her up to get some cute photo ops of her getting her first hair cut - then I thought I would save myself the $18.00 (is that a crime!) and hour of my time. I sat her on my bed, got the $6.99 hair scissors I keep hidden in my running clothes drawer and while she was watching t.v. I went snip, snip.
Having curly hair makes home cutting very forgiving.
I didn't even take a photo before I cut the 5 inches off. She was so excited to carry around her hair in a baggy all morning.

Annie Kate came home from school while I was taking the photos of Sally Jane and she said, "What have you done?" she is so sad and was holding on the golden locks like they were alive. Holy smokes! I say it is just hair it will grow back and since I am the one who is lucky enough to comb it every morning I feel I get to make the decision to cut it.
so now I hope I will have less screaming in the mornings.

**one of the best ideas I got from my friend Liz who took photos of her little girl with all of her baby dolls. I loved it so much I had Sally Jane's Christmas photo taken with her two "Sunny Sunny" bears that go everywhere with her. she is obsessed with the color yellow.

It's funny, Paul and I were just discussing tonight when we should consider snipping Isla's hair. She has little blonde locks too. Erin's hair grew so straight, it was obvious she'd suit a short bob, but I don't know what kind of style Isla's hair is heading for...

Oooh, don't get me started on the price people charge for cutting children's hair. Grrrr!!

I love the pictures, although they're tinged with some sadness. AK is just the loveliest sister, to be so concerned like that.

i felt the same about cutting my little BOYS blond locks. i finally just had to do it even though everyone was shocked. i'm with you, it's hair AK, it will grow back! i'm also with you on being the one to decide when it gets cut since you are the one in charge of grooming it every day! great post!

She looks darling! I finally gave in and cut Evie's bangs. I need to get them cut again. Luckily, my neighbor will cut it and do a great job. I refuse to pay a salon price for a kids hair cut!

That is so sweet that AK was so tender about it.
What a sweet goldielocks.

The haircut makes her look so BIG! Good job Kristi!

Awww! She looks so cute--both ways--and if it makes your mornings more bearable as Chief Hair Fixer, then so be it. SJ looks fascinated holding the ponytail remnant and AK looks completely crushed. So sweet!

I say the haircut is precious! I had Luci and Griffin's pictures taken with their "lovies" when they were little.

I think it is so funny when I find someone who lived a parallel moment with me. This is one of those posts. I love that about blogging!

My Aimee is a month away from being 3 (March 2nd) and got her first haircut yesterday too. She also is my little goldilocks (unexpected as I have dark hair) and has curls to hide my snipping errors. You did a great job and she looks adorable. I'm glad she was so low-key about it for you. Aimee-Sue was not happy at all. She thought hair cuts were just for boys, since she has seen me cut her Dad's, her older brother's and her baby brother's hair several times. ha!

I love the Christmas pic with the care bears. My daughter has quite the collection of those, she even has my Sunny Bear from when I was little!

I have cut Ryley's hair 4 times since she was born. She's not even two yet! The first time I did it I felt like I was going to pass out. The second through fourth times were because she rubbed a lot of her hair off the back of her head when she was tiny and it took a while for her hair to look normal again. From now on I am letting it grow, but I completely understand cutting it yourself. It's so much less of a hassle that way.

My little boy love dinos. I sometimes play with the idea of loading up ALL his dinos for a photo session!

Question...I have read on some of your posts about mailing good mail in "differnt boxes". Well, I just cleaned out my pantry and I have a TON of "fun" boxes. Do you wrap them in brown paper or just go for it(stick a label and go)? Do they mail pretty good? I won't let my husband throw them away until I hear back from you-TeeHee, He thinks I'm crazy, but really the boys have loved building with them!

My daughter loves her long hair (it almost down to her behind) but its so difficult to maintain. So we both decided that we would cut her hair shorter for the summer ( I am sure that we are going to have to compromise on the length as well).

I have trimmed her hair several times since super-cuts has charged me almost $15.00 for a trim in the past.

Also if you want to keep your daughters hair soft and almost tangle free, dab some conditioner on your daughter's hair after towel drying it.

The expression on AK face says a thousand words - she's so sweet.

Her hair is so cute! Funny that AK was so against it- but sweet too.

Sally Jane is such a cutie, it's hilarious that she carried the hair around with her all day.

I'm surprised Annie Kate had such a strong opinion about her sister's hair, what's up with that?

I think that's so sweet that Annie Kate is taking her haircut so hard!

And I definitely agree -- curly hair is so forgiving for mom trims. I'm always so thankful for that!

Sally Jane looks cute with her cut, and I love her yellow obsession. It seems to fit her quite well.

Actually, I am a little sad that you had to cut Sally Jane's hair, but if was keeping you both in a tizzy to comb it every day, I understand. Mom's have to make some tough decisions sometimes. She looks adorable either way, and she still has curls. Yippee!

Goldilocks got a haircut!? Sad pic of AK.

Have you ever tried using that spray in conditioner? Works wonders on snarly hair!

I'm all about short hair on little girls. No screaming in the mornings is always a good thing.

Very cute, you did a great job! And no $18 is not a crime if you have fine straight hair like we do here, it is a lot of work to get the perfect bob on that kind of head!

as i have my own Goldilocks this was a fun post to read. mine in addition to having baby fine curly hair, twirls it into the most impressive knot. so much fun to comb through, although i am not yet ready for her first cut. i fear i will be like annie kate and will be devastated when i finally do take the plunge and make a snip.
