my Sunday note taking book

Noteworthy

today was noteworthy for a few reasons.

No one screamed when I brushed and placed in bows in their hair for church. MIRACLE

despite my inner fear to attempt the rolls again this Sunday I did.
Caroline rolled them up again, in her new Easter apron
and it was a miracle because they worked. I think i have been killing the yeast. I used a thermometer this time. I can't believe I didn't take a photo of them out of the oven, but they were big and yummy!
I made Allison's yummy cookies to bring for munch and mingle after church. I was so glad that I had some growing grass to put in the center of our flower cookies.
the reason this is noteworthy is because I have such a fear of bringing food to events. I always feel like what ever I bring never gets eaten. Is that so weird to admit, but true. So I feel like I add ribbon to the tray or real grass and a fake bird to entice people to my food and maybe the will at least try it. I can't tell you how many times I have left an event with my serving tray still full of food. That was the blessing about downtown, no plates were empty at the end of any event. Now that i type that out I laugh at what a funny insecurity that is for me. (and all the cookies were eaten)
and last was my notes from Relief Society. It was ward conference and it was pretty amazing. One of the missionaries from San Diego was playing the harp as we walked into Relief Society and then played the most incredible musical number with his violin in sacrament meeting.
We were given a 3x5 card by the Stake Relief Society President encouraging us to write down one thing from the lesson. I doodled the whole time. I was so touched by her lesson that i photo copied my card and sent it to her with a note from what really touched me.
here are a few things on my card.
  • Remember your miracle (talking about when you gained a testimony)
  • have your words be thoughtful and constructive
  • Charity covers a multitude of sins
  • Stand Strong and Immovable
  • Take a Self Inventory every week (Jill you were so on to something!)
  • I am my Heavenly Father's daughter and I am about my Father's business
  • Build your house on a rock (we sang the song with actions)
  • She reminded us that life was noisy and to simplify
  • God will overcome evil
  • Stand up and be Women
  • A Marvelous Work is about to come forth - and how that can apply to being a mom not just a missionary.
She used the talk from Julie B. Beck "Stand Strong and Immovable" and said to use this list for our Self Inventory, and these are what we need to do first before anything else.

  • 1. Make and keep covenants with Him.

  • 2. Are worthy and worship in His temples.

  • 3. Study His doctrine in the scriptures and the words of prophets.

  • 4. Qualify for, recognize, and follow the Holy Ghost.

  • 5. Share and defend His gospel. (could blogging fit into this category for me?)

  • 6. Participate in sincere personal and family prayer.

  • 7. Have family home evening.

  • 8. Live principles of self-reliance and provident living.

the other noteworthy thing of the day is that I was called to be the personal progress leader. My now cute plate with ribbon, real grass and a fake bird is very full. (girls camp coming up in a few months) yi, yi, yi!!

I cannot think of anyone better suited to be their personal progress leader. You will rock in that calling!

I meant to add that because you have so many talents you have developed you will really rock in that calling. PS are you running the SLC 1/2?

Hooray for your rolls turning out! And for no crying while fixing hair, Eva cries every time.

Yes, I do think blogging can count as missionary work for you -- definitely. In fact, we had a talk in sacrament meeting encouraging that very thing!

I'm in YW now too -- yikes.

Here's to Girls Camp! I'll be going in July.

Darin would love some homemade rolls, I really need to try making some but I have had similar problems as you have in the past. Way to keep trying...you are such a "little engine that could"!

Congrats on your roll success! I have never even attempted such a recipe, let alone multiple times. Way to go!

Your cookies look great and the display is fabulous. I can't believe you'd ever bring home a full plate of anything you make.

I love your doodle way of taking notes and love it even more that you made a copy of it and sent it to the teacher (the day after the lesson even!). What a great compliment that will be for her. I think it's crazy how so many of us put so much time and effort into our church lessons, sharing times, and callings in general and rarely hear any feedback afterwards. I did sharing time yesterday and got 2 compliments and felt so relieved afterwards. It would be nice to know if I'm doing a good job.

P.S. As for ANOTHER new calling, I know you'll be great at it. Just remember you don't have to be over the top like the person who did it before you. It can be sane Personal Progress!

You are so amazing. We were talking about personalities and someone said they had never met a natural leader and I had to say, I have. I want to be just like you when I grow up. (Wait, I am a grown up and I'm probably older than you!)

What a great Mom you are!

Thanks for all the inspiration...I "borrowed" your green lunch idea for St. Patricks Day today...my girls thought it was the best lunch ever!"

Just thought you should know how great you are!

That talk goes so well with this year's mutual theme. I think I especially love Sister Beck because she was previously serving in YW's. I am very pumped about personal progress these days. I just earned my recognition award as a leader, only I did the YW requirements - 7 projects etc. And I have such a strong testimony now of personal progress!

I feel like I won the blogging lottery today. First I had a comment from you (totally makes me giddy for some weird reason) and then I linked over to your blog not to find one or two new posts, but three! Yay! And they were all great. Happy St Pats to you too!

Thanks for sharing your notes. I didn't get too much out of Sacrament yesterday as Ben was home sick, and I was focusing all my energy on keeping Jared quiet and entertained. Since I am in Primary, I never get to RS, so I miss out on alot of those messages. Thank you!!!

thank you, thank you, thank you! I feel like I say that a lot to you :)

That list for self-inventory was a good reminder for me...it actually made me feel like I am doing a lot of things right (not perfect) and I needed that reminder.

Love that picture of the girls! And your notebook is beautiful!

Would you mind posting the rolls recipe? They look so good...even pre-oven.

Good luck with your new calling! I'm sure you'll be so busy, but what fun stuff!

What a blessed Young Women's program to have you as the Personal Progress Leader!
I love keeping a Sunday Note Journal. It has changed my approach to meetings for the better!

Our stake said we can't have personal progress leaders anymore; as of a couple years ago... I thought it was on a general level but I guess not. With 30 young women in our ward, its tough for just our presidency to keep up with. I wish you were OUR pp leader!

Funny, it was our ward conference on Sunday and our stake YW theme for the year is Mosiah 5:15.

You will make a fabulous Personal Progress leader! What a fun calling for you.

I baked bread this week. It didn't turn out well, but I think it's a mistake to think that a bread recipe should work the first time. Bread takes practice, and none of us is old enough to be experienced enough to make perfect bread every time. Though, if the price of flour goes up like it's supposed to, I might just start making my own--and then I'll have plenty experience!

Hi Kristi! I haven't had a change to say hello in a while. Having a new baby is more time consuming than I ever thought! :)

I love that you photocopied your doodle/note page and sent it to the R.S. teacher. I am sure that made her day.

My favorite trick for bread making is to proof my yeast. My MIL taught me. You just dissolve your yeast in warm water (whatever the recipe calls for) in a bowl or pyrex measuring cup. Once it is dissolved, sprinkle some sugar (maybe 1-1.5 tsp) on top. Let it sit. If it starts to foam after a while then you know your yeast is active and you didn't kill it. Once it gets nice and foamy, I add it to my mixer with the other ingredients. Maybe this will help you?!? Also, I noticed you said something about scalding milk. I usually do it in the microwave and just long enough so it gets a film on top but doesn't boil. Your rolls really look yummy. I need to try rolling them that way sometime. They look so elegant.
