shirt reads: don't pinch me i am wearing green underwear

happy St. Patrick's Day
One of my favorite days of the year is today. We got our green on and had some fun.
green lunch which is always good because it turns out so healthy.
we woke up to upside down furniture, green milk and green toilet water.

Annie Kate set her leprechaun trap last night, which provided much drama. Our past fake kind of traps would not do as she really believes that there are leprechauns (and Santa and the tooth fairy and the Easter bunny and the magic school bus and the Valentines fairy - Oh the therapy!) and really wanted to catch him!

she made these fake, fabric, hand sewn money bags to trick him into coming in and stealing some money. She also left a potato, snickers and one Oreo. She drew him a very detailed drawing and then wanted to make a doll.

Annie Kate had recently watched this episode of Martha Stewart crafts with me on doll making. She must have taken great notes because she was set on making one of these dolls and clothing for the leprechaun. She printed the pattern off the Internet and cut it out. found some fabric and was set to go. At 8:00 pm this was the last thing I wanted to do. But how could I turn down those freckles!

It turned out darling and took us an hour and half to make. Annie Kate even hand stitched the nose and was saying "She (Martha Stewart) pinched the fabric just like this mom" We made him a pair of brown pants, green roll neck fleece top, brown scarf and he had awesome red yarn for hair. The leprechaun left some gold dollar coins in his place. I left the potato too with 9 little bites out of it. She took the potato to school to show her friends that she had proof he had come to her house. ( I seriously prayed all day that no one would mock her - she either doesn't care if they did or they all or believers too.)
Sally Jane made great use out of a dress I had made for Annie Kate 6 years ago when she went to a blues clues show. (for you new Orleans girls this is that old burda pattern that we all made so many dresses out of)Caroline was a goof ball all day digging for worms and acting like a leprechaun. This was her signature leprechaun jig.
We ended the night with Green pancakes!

did the leprechaun visit your house today?

Oh Kristi, you are asking the wrong person. I am so not a fun mom. I don't do anything at all for St. Patrick's Day! Lucas went to a friend's house after school and came home with tales of leprechaun visits, gold coins, and dried clovers. I'm sure he wonders why no leprechauns come to our house!

I am in love with Caroline's leprechaun jig!

He didn't visit my house, but Larry the Leprechaun visited my nieces and nephews....

I'm with the above poster! I never think of fun things like this & if I do I surely don't have the energy to follow through. I keep telling myself I'll do better but I always end up short!:( I need to start thinking easter tonight! lol

Darling Girls! We had green lunch, and green dinner, but that's about the extent of it...Nice work staying up to help your daughter with something so important to her! We got a head start on dying easter eggs for FHE....Easter comes early this year!

Our kids set traps for the leprechauns out of cottage cheese containers and a chocolate chip for bait.
We kept wondering where the chocolate chips were disappearing, when later last night, our dog was going crazy. He couldn't go to sleep and kept pacing around the house.
We are pretty sure he ate them. But the kids still think it was a the leprechauns.
They did wake up this morning to find a note from the little green guy.

Green toilet water? My kids would've DIED with that! I HAVE to remember that for next year! Leprechauns always seemed scary to me {I'm a wimp}..so they didn't "visit" us...but the kids had special St. Patrick's Day plates in their lunches, and we thought we had a real Irish dinner! The doll is great. How fun for you and AK to share that time together making it!

Caroline's expression is priceless.

Oh, you are the best mom! WE only had green rice krispy treats. Lindsey was saying how it didn't even feel like St. Patrick's DAy because they didn't build any traps at school. Oh well.

I love all the outfits the girls had on!!

We did not have any visitors at our house either... It was the beginning our our Spring break so they all wore green and I had hair appts for all of them. We are a pretty exciting bunch!! NOT!

I so remember that dress!!! It is still as darling as the day you made it. Caroline just made us all laugh so hard. That pose and expression are priceless. Its one of the few photos that I have seen that captures her true little personality.

I'm sitting here eating an entire bag of green m&ms that someone dropped off at my house. Does that count as celebrating?? BTW, thanks for the links you sent. They are awesome!

Those are the cutest pictures. What a cute idea to set traps.

Our leprechauns came a little late. We had a bad night so they had their visit before the kids got home from school. Ours left little cauldens of goodies.

I used your poem from last year to give the teachers little goodies. Thanks again!

Oh Annie Kate is just a chip off her mother's block! You definitely help her creativity prosper. You and she could take over for Martha Stewart some day.
Sally Jane is darling in the Blue's Clue's dress, and as for Caroline--she just makes me laugh out loud. What spunk!!

I helped my kids wear green, does that count?

The picture of Caroline is still cracking me up! What a cutie!

Unfortunately for my children, I am nowhere near as fun as you are when it comes to the holidays...we dressed in green, did a simple craft, listened to some Irish music on YouTube--that's about it.

LOVE the doll--your daughter obviously got her creativity from her mom :)

Caroline's jig is hilarious! I love that photo!

Leo the Leprechaun visited Kat's classroom and I'm pretty sure she's a believer. She wrote him the cutest note and told him she loved him. Should I be worried.

Just wanted to thank you for your ideas for this holiday. Thanks to your post last year, we did many of the same things in our house this year and they were a HUGE hit!

You need to have Annie Kate read Artemis Fowl. It is a New York Times best seller and gives you all the ins and outs of the fairy world. I had just read it and my kids used it to make our trap even more "tricky". I am totally a believer too, and no one has dared make fun of me to my face...so I think she'll be just fine :)

The leprechaun visited my house this year, but only because you shared your ideas last year! I second everyone who said you are the funnest mom ever!

I love AK's doll! I spent ages looking for clip art of a NICE looking leprechaun, but they all looked evil, evil, evil! AK's little fella is just lovely. And I'm v.impressed with her get-up and go.

Caroline's jig pose is great. And the little Elvis snarl. As my Irish mother would say, 'Look at the gimp on her!'
