I Spy with my little eye...
what do you think of when you see this photo??

How lucky for me that I had 20 extra minutes in my day today. So I ran into Goodwill and look what I spied with my little eye and snatched up for my house.

these pewter napkin rings. They are not Arthur Court but they look just like they could be and I love that stuff. I don't think they will be used at napkin rings but will probably be used for something with lots of ribbon on them. $1.99 for all 4

lately when my friends have a birthday I make the amazing Choc. Chip cake put it on a goodwill plate or cake stand and wrap it tons of cellophane and ribbon. So when ever I find a cool plate or cake stand I snatch it up for the needed cake holder. $4.99 - more than I would normally pay but this plate is so big and so heavy.

my friend Lisa's birthday is today so I was trying to find something for her. This beautiful bowl is silver plated and the bottom and was so gross and rusted. The glass is thick and not one chip. So I got it to fill with fresh strawberries and take to her tonight. It even has the made it Italy sticker on the bottom. $2.99

here is the after photo after I used my tarnish gel.

and here it is ready to deliver! not too bad of a birthday gift for $2.99
I also found 8 more of these dessert plates and found 12 of these glasses that come with the set. I now have 26 plates and always seem to find them when I go. I love these and now just need to host a gathering to use them all. Plates $1.99 each Glasses $.59 each
this mirror is awesome and so heavy. i cant' believe it didn't break right through the bag. It is likely it will get spray painted pink and put in the girls bedroom. But for today it is silver. $2.99
I also got 4 black toille plates (Melinda thought of you!) of 4 different historic places in Maryland
they each have the location and when it was built on the back. Company is Adams Antiques of Steubenville They were $1.99 each.
and last but not least did you recognize the top photo. Is there anyone who didn't have this pitcher growing up. Sally Jane and I were both thrilled to find this vintage yellow drink pitcher. It is in great shape and is a testament of the durability of Tupperware. It was $.99.

What do you think was my best deal?
What do you think I paid too much for?
is anyone else wondering where i find the time to thrift shop and then take photos and write about it - because i am wondering the same thing. I think the pile of laundry downstairs is the answer to that question.

Kristi, you are going to die laughing when you hear what I thought that top photo was. I was kind of thinking it looked like one of those sit and spin toys. But then I saw the end picture of it and it is a pitcher! Too funny. Anyway, I am pretty sure we had one of these growing up.

I think it is fabulous what you find at your thrift store. One of these days I am going to check out a thrift store near me.

you are most amazing treasure finder and I promise you my mom has been dragging me in "junk" shops my whole life...but you rock!

when we were in Italy, we went into a little local antique shop that was full of the most amazing furniture (not very portable) - in one of the cabinets I found this tiny little glass pitcher (creamer) perfect for my mom because she has several in her kitchen window that she fills with fresh flowers from her yard

the shop owner wanted to just give it to me because he said it was "junk" and just could not understand why I wanted it. It obviously did not translate that my mom would be thrilled that I was antique shopping (in Italy, no less) and thought of her

My choice is the the glass bowl with silver bottom - it cleaned up great and will be beautiful filled with strawberries.

My mom still has the yellow pitcher like that. Right away I knew what it was and it brings back so many memories. You always seem to find such amazing things!

i liked the glass dish best, what a great birthday gift!

Genius, genius, genius, that's what the strawberry bowl is! I love the way it really came up like a new pin when you cleaned the tarnish off.

I thought the top pic was something retro (like Tupperware) but I actually thought it was some kind of salad spinner!

Just be careful these Goodwill shop owners don't read your blog, or they'll hike the prices up. Our charity shops in the UK can charge ridiculously high prices. They seem to have twigged that people are 'into' shabby chic and retro stuff. The rotters :-/

My favorites are the candlewick glass plates...my sister inherited a set from her husband's great aunt...I just love the little spot for the cigarette! i have a set with grapevines that were all collected thru garage sales...I loaned them out for a baby shower last week.

I thought of you when I had 10 minutes to spare before gymnastics this morning....we took a quick look, but no great finds this time!

I love the little snack plates. I collect them, too. I've been in love with them ever since my friend Julie's bridal shower, when they served refreshments on plates just like that. Unfortunately I cleaned out our DI and there has never been even one more there. I need to start checking around. I have about 15, and I'm dying to have a bridal shower (or some sort of "tea" party) to use them at.

Good grief! My mom (remember Kim Sue and I are sisters) have been dragged into every thrift store in sight and I have NEVER EVER EVER EVER seen deals like you post about! Have you always been this lucky or is the goodwill in your area just that GREAT??? I am amazed at what you find!

I also love the glass bowl you used for the birthday gift full of strawberries! Turned out adorable!

I would absolutely die if I found those plates at my Goodwill. I love toile plates. I have a set of six read ones and use them almost daily. I have three on my wall that my grandmother had when she and my grandfather collected green stamps or something like that.

Why don't I ever find this cool of stuff in the Falls Church Goodwill?????

Oh Kristi, I saw some of those glass/cup plates at the DI like a year ago and STILL think about them. I look every time I go and have never seen them since. Great finds, and GREAT gift ideas!!

I am amazed every single time you post your Goodwill finds! I think buying cake plates and delivering a cake for a friend's birthday is a genius idea. The bowl of strawberries is too, how beautiful!

I totally recognized the yellow button top of that pitcher, we had that too.

love, love, love the pitcher. When I was growing up, I had the tupperware play set that had a mini pitcher (i think it was orange... gotta love the 70s) and some other little containers. Oh, so cute... makes me wonder... does Mom still have that somewhere?

Love, love, love(!) your deals! I wish our goodwill or any thrift store around here was as good as yours! Not so lucky!

I LOVE all of your goodwill finds but I think actually the best deal was the mirror...what did you say, $2.99! I love the idea of storing up cake plates for giveaways too...how about sharing the choco chip cake recipe!

I knew right off the bat that your first picture was a tupperware pitcher lid. I think every household owned one at one time or another!

My fav was the plates- Heck... you didn't pay too much for anything!!

I knew it was the pitcher! We had one in brown. I LOVE the mirror and would have never thought of that myself. I cannot believe how creative you are. I have never been to goodwill and might have to stop there sometime.

I knew right away the picture was a pitcher!! We had a blue one and a brown one when I was little and my Mom still uses them. What a fun day with great deals. I love the mirror!! (and more often than not I find time to do all the things I want to do but none of the things that need to be done!)

Your Goodwill finds are amazing.
The idea of giving a cake on a plate for birthdays is awesome. I think I will be adopting that one.
I would love to see the mirror when done.

I totally had a pitcher like that! Good times. But we had a brown and an orange one.

My first thought on the photo was I thought it was a spout to Gatorade container.

Kristy said...

We had a Tupperware pitcher just like that growing up! We had everything Tupperware.....my Mom use to sell it.

We only have the DI here....sometimes you can find a good deal but I think their prices are kind of high! All the goodwill stores are in the city.

we definitely had one a pitcher like this growing up - infact, my mom bought me the whole set of miniature play tupperware dishes that i still have, including a tiny orange version of our awesome pitcher! so cute! remember the square plates?

so, i've decided that it would be worth living out east for a few years just to start my own collection of dessert plates! we would never find anything this cool at the DI, seriously, such great finds!
