25 precious pages.

I am not sure if I can read these last 25 pages of These is my Words. For a few reasons..
  1. I don't want the book to end.
  2. I don't want to go to bed not reading about Sarah and her life, thinking that I would have enjoyed a life like that (I have often said I was born 100 years too late)
  3. I read the sequel first so I know what what is coming and I don't want to read about it.
  4. I keep finding the right time to get ready for a good cry which I know is inevitable. I think I may have to finish the book in public so I don't have a total breakdown.
I have loved this book more than I ever thought possible. These are my favorite kind of books. About homesteading women which make me appreciate my life, but also remind me of the responsibility I have to do so much good with so many advantages (running water) I have in my life.
I fear for the length of the upcoming post on how this book as touched me.
As for now I am just baby stepping my emotions to the end of the book.

Grab tissue and just read!

It's probably the most I ever have cried from a book. But it is worth it. Nothing worse than when a book you love comes to an end...

Kristi, did you know there is a 3rd book in the series? It is called Star Garden, and it is really quite good as well. So when you finish up "These is my Words", give that one a try. I really loved all three books, but they sure do tug at your heart and make you cry.

I loved that book as well -- perhaps you might enjoy the third book in the series!! I love the books from that period of time as well. Maybe you would like A Lantern in Her Hand, Nothing to do but Stay, and The Wedding Dress. They were also really good books.

This is one of my all-time favorite books. I read this last summer and bawled like a baby through the whole blasted thing.

Oh Kristi, I felt the same way! I became so sad when I got close to the end because I had been COMPLETELY swept up with Sarah and didn't want to leave her. And then there was Jack. Sob!!

I read Sarah's Quilt, but not Star Garden--yet. These Is My Words was the best, in my opinion.

It's a great book! I've read all 3and the first was by far the best but I completely understand what you are talking about~I felt the same way when I was reading it. Our book club just finished The Star Garden & I was kind of sad to see the series be over!

Oh this book! I have yet to read something that touched me so personally. Sarah is by far my most favorite heroine and I could relate to her in so many ways. You will bawl your head off- even in public. It was such a great, wonderful, life changing book for me. I hope you DO post about how it touched you.

I am SO glad you enjoyed this book! I just loved it and I have to admit I was a little sad when you said you didn't love the 2nd book so much - I am glad it is just because you hadn't had a chance to get as connected with Sarah as you do in the first book.
I can't wait for your long post about this book!

Oh, I love that book!! You just need to find a time to be alone and have a good cry! It makes me feel good to 'get to know' a character and then be all emotional about 'the end'. It's good to have something to cry about once in a while!

I received this book from a book club buddy as my family and I were about to "forge ahead" and move to remote Alaska. I have recommended this book to so many people and while I usually pass books on, as we are a military family and move too much to hoard things, I have kept this book on my shelf and let friends borrow it regularly. We have just returned from two years in Alaska and I will always have this book as a reminder that when you think you cannot stand one more moment of a hard situation....surely you CAN endure!

YAY!!! I am so happy that you are reading it! One of my all-time favorites. Captain Jack Elliott -- one of my favorite characters in all of literature. Let's read Star Garden and see if we love it -- Jessie thinks it's almost as good as the first!

I have a policy- no sad movies- no sad books.
I just can't take it. They stay with me for weeks... no, no, I don't do sad.
I kind of, read two sad books for my book club last year- skipped a lot that I couldn't take.
Denial is the world I live in.
I do hate it when a good book comes to an end. I just finished Barbara Walters- Audition.
(see, I'm shallow, down deep) because I LOVED IT. In fact it was the longest book I've ever read.
It was great- tons of history- it really was good, not all smutty like the media made it out to be.

I'm so glad you like this book, because it is my all-time favorite. I get it out every couple of years to have a good cry! I haven't even read the sequel yet!

Oh this book is so good. I knew what was coming from accidentally reading spoilers on a couple blogs and I thought I would be 'tough'. No way, I totally cried through the end. And even through all the tears, I didn't want it to end. Love this type of book as well but unlike you I'm not sure I would have been strong like Sarah. I'm excited to read that Star Garden might be as good as this. I have to go get it!

I DID finish it in public (beach) and did have a total breakdown. I was under my hat and sunglasses for an hour bawling with all my sisters saying, "I'm definitely not reading that now!"

Kristi! I know just what you mean. Sarah became my friend, and finishing "These Is My Words" made me sob. Seriously, I cried and cried and cried. Get your Kleenex and a quiet place. After I was done, I called my friend, who finished the book the day before and all I said was, "I'm done" and then she and cried AGAIN on the phone!

Thank goodness for beautiful books.

I ugly-faced cried with this book. I LOVED it and it will definitely be ranked in my favorite top 5. They should have a disclaimer on it to not read it if you are 9 months pregnant. What's funny is that I finished it in the hospital when I had Henry. I could not put it down. When he was asleep or in the nursery I read (instead of slept). I got my private good cry out behind closed doors in my hospital room. A+ book!

Loved loved loved that book. Her passion for education, her compassion mixed with plain old toughness...she is a true heroine and I love a book that makes me cry. And your right... it put my life into better perspective when I consider how many modern conveniences I take for granted.... and how much more I should be able to accomplish. Wonderful book.

Kristi,
This is one of my favorite books! I read it for book club and went out and bought it and then I made Jay read it so I could talk to him about it! I ball like a baby every time I read it. Did you finish it?

This is seriously one of my most favorite books--ever. I read it a few years ago and was so incredibly touched. This book definitely creates the water works. I'll have to check out the third one (I wasn't too impressed by the second.)
