My favorite costume was when I was a jar of jelly beans (I think I was about 6 years old). My mom forgot to provide a means to use the bathroom, so it was the most creative AND the most memorable--for other reasons...

I haven't dressed up for halloween in a long time, but this year I'm going for it. Our 9 month old baby is going to be a lion, I'm going to be dorothy and my husband will either be the tin man or a scarecrow. It's going to be fun!

Sweet! I was just checking out her site the other day. That "Thankful" banner is so darling!

Ok, my favorite costume was probably when I dressed up as Raggedy Anne, but that might be because I was also in a school play as that too. I think I was in Kinder!

Super fun giveaway!

My favorite costume EVER was Cruella Deville. I was purely evil to all the little trick or treaters in my neighborhood while cracking my kids up at the same time.

Ahhh...good times.

Wait, I just remembered that when I was a freshman at BYU, 3 other girls and I from my floor dressed up as a box of crayola crayons. We used the giant DI box from our floor as the box, and dressed from head to toe in one color. I was green. We won 3rd place at the DT halloween party! Now that was awesome!

Please Please Please pick me!! I have been drooling over these banners for several weeks now!! I want one for EVERYTHING!!

I think I was a witch every year- but no doubt I was a CUTE witch :o)

My favorite costume was when I was a die (as in singular of dice) when I was about 8 years old. My mom didn't believe in spending more than a couple of dollars on our Halloween costumes, so we had to be creative. And I grew up where it was really cold on Halloween, so we had to have a costume that could fit over our coats. So one year I was a die. I wore black pants and a box with arm and leg circles cut out that we had painted white and put black circles on each face to look like a die. I remember trying to crawl through a Haunted House put on by the 5th graders in their classroom and getting stuck because my costume was so big.

My favorite halloween costume....I think it was a couple of years ago when I was pregnant, I wore a P on my shirt and put black make-up under my eye. My husband did it too....get it? We were the black-eyed peas! I thought it was hysterical...

Laura B. said...

So I've been pregnant three out of the past four years. Last year I decided, if I was fat, I might as well try to be sexy.
So I was the Sexy Green M&M...complete with white go-go boots.
I was so excited to have something to hide my 7 month pregnant belly (and bootie).

my very favorite costume was a black cat costume my mom made me to match my cat. :) we won a prize at the pet store and i thought it was so great that i looked like alex (the cat). :)

I haven't dressed up for years! How sad is that?! My favorite costume was when I was Little Red Riding Hood and my hubby went as the Big Bad Wolf. We had only been married about a year. I think that was the last time either of us dressed up. Who knows...maybe this year!

Bugg's mama said...

I was a package of Lifesavers when I was a young gal. I had a foil hat and a funky multi-colored dress. Maybe I should do it again....?

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

I was the blue plate special....red and white table cloth worn like a poncho with blue plastic (SOHO) plates and utensils glued to it with a vase and menu attached. I had so much fun creating that one..

My favorite was the year I dressed as a nun (at BYU). My boyfriend (now husband) dressed as a priest. We had a blast and got some very strange looks around Provo that night. :)

Very Cute Banners! Thanks for introducing them!

My favorite or most memorable costume ever was that of a Hawaiian Hula Dancer.

Now...I wear the same costume every year....that of a tired mom!

I love those kits!! Those are fabulous!
Sadly, I was the youngest girl child in my extended family, and my Aunt had made this great witches costume. So, once my 3 cousins wore it, and then my sister wore it, it was passed down to me. Since it was homemade, it was special, but 5 girls later, it was a tiny bit shabby! I wore it 3 years in a row! So, my favorite costume was the first "new" costume I got to wear after that! I was Raggedy Ann! :)

Kristi, I am so embarassed to tell you my favorite costume. Can I just preface it by saying that at the time I didn't know any better? I remember being so proud of my homemade costume of a pack of cigarettes. At the time, I thought it was so creative and I was so proud of it because I had made it. Looking back, I am frightfully embarassed that I ever thought it was cool. Oh well.

My favorite costume ever was the year I dressed up as a gypsy. I think that I was 7 and i felt so exotic and grown-up. It was a great costume.

Ashley said...

I agree with everyone that those are adorable! I love the thankful one.

My favorite Halloween costume was one I threw together at the last second in college for a party. I had tights with fruit on them so I glued some fake fruit onto a paper plate to make a chiquita banana lady hat, found a fluffy skirt, and made a "Chiquita sticker" for my shirt. I met my husband that night--he was wearing a gift-wrapped cardboard box with a tag that said "To women, from God." It was an ice-breaker. . . .

Do I really have to choose just one??? You know me and costumes...

I guess it would be the year I was Brutus Buckeye. (It's the mascot for Ohio State University in case you didn't know). I was in 4th or 5th grade and back then (late 70's) Brutus wasn't just a head mascot like he is today- it was a giant buckeye nut head that went all the way down to the knees. My Dad and I spent weeks making & painting a chicken wire and paper mache costume. It rested on my head and I looked out a little peep hole to see. That was the only downside to the costume- all the boys in my class in their cheerleader costumes sticking their pom-poms in my eye hole so I couldn't see at the school costume parade.

I have such sweet memories of me and my dad working together and feeling so proud of what we had made. I especially treasure that memory now that he is gone. That's why I love making crazy costumes every year with my daughter. I hope she will treasure these memories as much as I do.

One of my favorite costumes was my last year I went. My mom wasn't much into making costumes, so I made my own. I was a punk rocker. I put on legging and a black trash bag over my top and spiked my hair. So funny that I thought that was a costume!

Jolene said...

I love these banners.

My favorite costume when I was a kids was in 4th grade. A week before Halloween I had to get 25 stitches in my forehead after an accident and my mom let me ditch my ballerina costume and be Frankenstein. I thought it was extra cool.

My favorite costume as an adult was about 10 years ago when I had three kids under three. We dressed them all up as bumble bees and my husband and I were bee keepers.

Christine said...

My favorite costume was when I dressed up as the Queen of Clean. I had a toilet bowl septer (new of course), a frilly sparkly apron, rubber gloves with fur trim and a crown. I dressed my husband as the "dirt devil". He was in a devil costume and had to carry around a "dirt bag".

Rachel said...

Hands down, 1st grade. My mother had spent hours measuring and sewing me the most perfect Rainbow Bright costume, shiny material and all. Age 6 was quite3 a while ago, but I'll never forget all the attention I got in the school parade. When I had my own daughter, my mother brought her a Rainbow Bright doll. Good stuff.

p.s. I've been drooling over Emmie Cakes. Are they hard to put together for the least crafty of us all?

Becca said...

My most memorable Halloween was when I didn't have any ideas for a costume and my mom became creative overnight and decided I should be a birthday present. She wrapped a large box, cut holes for my head and arms, and put it over my head upside down (so my legs were free). Then she put a giant bow on top of my head and a silver masquerade mask. I was a little embarrassed as it was hard to maneuver in but it's definitely the costume that comes to my mind first.

Can I have two?

My senior year of high school was awesome because I dressed up as my dad. I went to my friend's party wearing my dad's overalls, plaid flannel shirt, and fishing hat. The greatest thing was that my friends knew immediately who I was.

Another favorite was when I was "Jill in the Box". My mom covered a large box in paper which she decorated with paint. My dad put handles inside for me to hold. I decorated my face and did something silly with my hair. I would close the lid and then pop out at random times. Good fun!

Love the banners! I will have to get some for sure.

My favorite Halloween costume was the minnie mouse my mom made me when I was 10 years old. My brother was Mickey. They were darling and it was a year my mom could make me a homemade costume, WAY better than any store bought one and I won a Halloween costume contest even with it that year!

Has to be the year I was a voodoo doll! Hands down my greatest costume ever. Skin tight black from head to toe. You could not see one scrap of skin. Grass skirt and long, black braided wig tied randomly with rags. Crazy felt mouth put on sideways with safety pins--button eyes and felt heart pinned over my heart. Pins stuck in me that were made out of skewers painted silver. I wore this for a couple of years when I worked at the Haunted Forest (that we run) and have never had a better reaction to a costume. VERY CREEPY!!!

shauna said...

As a teacher I dress up every year - I LOVE it! Two of my favorites have been an autumn nymph and The Queen of Hearts. I even have custom made matching purses and accessories that match my costumes!:)

Shauna

-Oh wait, there was also a year that I had foot surgery and I was a ballet dancer with a walking cast:)

Last year, my husband and I dressed up at two of Warren Jeff's wives. We both wore long braided wigs and dresses with pants underneath. I was pregnant so it worked out really well. I have wanted a Happy Birthday banner forever so I would love to win!

Deanna Payne said...

I think my favorite was the year I actually got my husband to dress up with me. He was Thing 1 and I was Thing 2. We had red sweat suits and blue afro wigs. We cut circles out of the thin foam sheets and used a sharpie marker for the front. They were so easy and so cute. However the wig was really itchy.

Erin said...

So cute!!!!

Let's talk about my worst costume! My mom made me go to swim team practice on Halloween and I was one of only 3 that showed up. Afterwards she put a swim cap on my head and made me go out like that. Only a swim cap. How stupid and how embarrassing! That night I needed an emmiecake banner that said..."My mom did this...not me!"

I love your signs!

One of my favorite costumes ,when I was in 5th grade. I dressed up lile a girl from the 50's. Poodle skirt, red lip stick, saddle shoes, and the whole nine yards.

What a wonderful give giveaway! :)

My favorite was when I was a butterfly, my husband was a bug catcher safari guy and my 3 month old was a caterpillar. Thank you Martha Stewart for your fab ideas!

Love the banners!

O I love Halloween and I love dressing up! My favorite would have to be when I was an old man and my husband was an old lady. It was soooo funny.

Laurie said...

I too have had my eye on these darling banners.

I love Halloween. I think I enjoyed best dressing up as a gypsy. We had a pretty cute costume in the costume box at my Grandma's!

suzy said...

Halloween is my favorite holiday!! I still dress up to take my kids around and my husband is embarrassed. My favorite costume was kind of boring, but in 4th grade I was an old lady. The reason it was my favorite was because my mom volunteered to come to my classroom and do all the kids makeup for the school costume parade. She dressed as a witch every Halloween and I was kind of embarrassed to have her come. But all the kids loved her and I was so proud.

melanie said...

Love those banners. I have lots of birthdays coming up, those are great. Thanks for the idea.

My best costume....one year at the salon I worked at we all dressed up from different eras. I found the best classic 'go-go' dress that was bright yellow and white plaid. I even found white pleather boots. I usually don't like dressing up but I did that year.

Apricot Tree said...

Oooo I want to make one! I'm hosting bunco this month, so we're doing a halloween pajama party, lol. But I'm desperately looking for cute halloween deco ideas, and recipes to impress...

My favorite costume growing up was a rollerskating cheerleader :D And my most proud mama costume moments was the year I dressed my three kids up as the three bears. One of my first sewing projects I might ad! TOOO cute! and they were toasty and warm too all night.

Tasha said...

No question, punk rocker. It was the only time my mom let me wear my hair ratted high, sprayed pink, wear a pat benatar off the shoulder shirt with tank under, or lace leggings under a denim mini. I was all about pushing the rues!!!

Plus my mom just HATED Halloween and wasn't about to buy a costome, so I had to use what I had!

kelly said...

One year I was a nurse...oh I love that costume, white dress, this blue cape and the triange hat!! My mom always got us the best!! The Indian girl was a great one too, suede brown dress with beading and a headband with a feather...I can go on, off to find some pictures and call my mom to thank her!! Thanks Kristi for statring my day with such a great memory!!

April said...

I think my favorite would be Minnie Mouse. My mom made it on the big side, so I could wear it for a couple of years. Smart woman!

michelle said...

These are adorable. I think my favorite costume was when I was a box of cereal, though it was awkward to move around! I have always, my whole life, wanted a real, glamorous costume -- like a Renaissance queen or some such. Someday.

These banners are darling.

Ohhh.. favorite costume.

It would have to be the fairy princess costume my mom made for me in 2nd grade. Pink tulle, a wand, and wings.

A serial killer...or a 'cereal killer'...dressed in all black with small cereal boxes all over my body and squirt guns on my belt! :)

We didn't have much money growing up, and I was sort of a shy kids, so my Dad made me a Dog costume out of a brown paper bag and twirled newspaper. I wore it over my head with eye holes cut out and told everyone my Dad made it for me. I probably looked ridiculous, but sure loved my Dad that day!

Kristin said...

Favorite costume;

Pippi Longstockings, my mom would put my hair in 2 braids then stick a wire hanger through the braid so we could bend them upwards. Mis-matched clothes and long mis-matched high socks made the outfit! (Hope your not to young to know who Pippi is he he).

Carrie said...

My favorite costume was wonder woman when I was six because my mom made the costume.

When I was a kid I was a California Raisin. I wore a Hefty trash bag with the drawstring pulled up around my face, black tights, converse shoes, and sunglasses. It was a hit!

Last year we dressed up our little weiner dog in a hot dog costume, and of course baby Isaac had to match. He was a hot dog too! They looked so funny together.

We used to have Halloween theme parties every year...80's Prom, White Trash Trailer Bash, Super Heros, Cartoon Characters...You get the picture. I think my all time favorite costume was the year we did super heros and I dressed up like Wonder Woman (I made my costume) so that I could wear a skirt - those "pantaloons", "bloomers" whatever that she always wore scared me and I wasn't about to wear those! GAG! Tiara, Wrist Bracelets (to block bad lasers of course) gold rope tied onto my belt, tights and knee high boots...I was a sight for super hero eyes!

I am sitting here and can't remember any of my costumes. Is that crazy? I blame sleep deprived post natal brain.
Or is could be that most of my costumes were hodge podge ones from all the different hand me downs.

Those are darling decorations!

My favorite costume (apparently this was a great question by the way) was in 7th grade when my mom made me an awesome poodle skirt so I could dress like a 50's girl.

My favorite costume was last year when I was 7 1/2 months pregnant my husband and I went to a halloween party and I made me a giant oven out of a box with a little window where my belly was (wearing a tan colored shade shirt) showing the "bun" . Bun in the oven. My husband was the chef. We won first place and $50!!! Now the bar is set high. What am I to do this year?

My favorite costume is one that my Dad wore to a company party. He's a creative director for an ad agency, so they can get pretty creative. He went as the floor of a movie theater. He had hilarious dirty brown coveralls on that he glued all sorts of things onto like popcorn, gum, candy wrappers, loose change, ect. I thought it was great.

Costume that was most fun: a bunch of my friends & I dressed as the Robert Palmer girls from the "Addicted to Love" video (yes, I'm an 80's girl). We won a huge costume contest at a dance club.

Ahem. That was back when I had cute legs.

My favorite costume was when I dressed up as a bathing beauty. I cut out a plastic tub, tied rope to keep it on my shoulders, and then stuffed a pair of nylons to look like legs sticking out of the tub. Complete with high heels and bubble balloons, it was the hit of the party! :)

When we were bordering the age that you shouldn't go trick-or-treating any more, my friend and I dressed up as punk rockers (80's you know) and people told us we were too old to be getting candy and to go home. Go home we did and changed into some ghost or baby costumes and went out again. No one sent us away.
