me running at Ft. McHenry, the birthplace of the National Anthem (mile 10)

See it pays to be slow.
Today our family was highlighted in the Baltimore Sun.
You can read the entire article here.

Jeff Cutler and his wife, Kristi, jogged in together at 6:16 with their three young daughters in tow.
"We picked up the kids [from a friend] at mile 26.1," said Cutler, 37, of Gaithersburg. Last year, he said, he did the race in 3:40. Yesterday, he hung back deliberately to accompany his wife, who was struggling. "I love her, there's no doubt about that," he said.

Some other highlights of the race

Runners take off at the start of the 2008 Baltimore Marathon. Julius Keter of Kenya, who won the race with a record time of 2:11.56, is on the right wearing a blue Nike shirt.

Emotional finish to the race

Ray Scharenbrock, 75, nears the finish line. He placed last in 6 hours, 59 minutes, 15 seconds.
He has run a marathon in 50 states 9 times over!!!

YES! YOU DID IT! Nice job, Kristi!

I am crying right now, after having read the article in the Sun. Marathons always bring me to tears. They represent such a range of emotions for me. I love what the man who finished last (but right near the top in my book) said, "every finish line is a gift from God." I couldn't agree more.

Had you not finished when you did, you never would have had that amazing picture of your family crossing the finish line. Frame that! Hang it proudly! I bet you have planted a spark in your girls to want to run races someday, or better yet, to realize that they can do hard things and accomplish whatever they put their minds to. Early last year, their mother wasn't a runner. Now she has done TWO marathons (and I have a hunch, she might be adding a few more ...).

I am so proud of you.

AMAZING! I'm gonna have to go back and read your progress again to get to this point. I don't know how you ran two marathons in one year while never having been a runner before. I was thinking that it would take me years to get ready. I'm so proud of you and glad to have met someone who has inspired me to do this myself. Wow, that is so awesome to have that article about you guys! And Jeff must really LOVE you like crazy to did what he did, too! Congratulations to you both.

You totally inspired me to run my very first marathon!

I ran the Long Beach marathon yesterday and finished at 6 hours and 13 minutes. It was the best day of my life. Thank you so much for inspiring me. I cannot wait until next year!

This photo with your entire family would be a great Christmas card! I am interested to hear if you found the guy that was playing the music last year, if you have any funny stories from hanging in the back like last year. SOOOOO nice that your husband hung with you! THAT is support!
That photo of you running by the water is AWESOME!!!
Congrats! YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!

I agree with Andrea that the picture of you all crossing the finish line together should be your Christmas card picture.

congrats on your marathon. I have two friends that did the half.

I found your blog when I was trying to find help from blogger. Did you have a connection problem with your blog? People can't get to our blog - livingintheeastvalley.com and I don't know how to fix it. IF you had a similar problem and can help, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

Pat, a fellow runner.
