Bean Class

This month for our women's organization at church someone taught a class on BEANS. Yep you heard right all about Beans.
With my calling in the Relief Society Presidency I am kind of obligated to go, which is great because I would never have chosen going to a Bean class.
It will go on the books as my favorite class of yet.
We had about 7 different dishes made with Beans
A new year's black eye peas multi grain dish
2 different tortilla soups
BBQ lentils made to mimic BBQ Beef - surprisingly good
and 3 different cakes made with beans.

Oh my! Oh so yummy. The chocolate cake was a regular cake mix and instead of oil it used black beans pureed to equal the amount of oil.
There was a pumpkin cake made with a White Bean - it makes the cakes super moist
Who knew.
I went to the store today and bought 10 cans of different beans that I am so excited to try.
My family HATES beans, so I am going to sneak them in anywhere I can

Have you ever tried Black Bean Chocolate Cake?

I haven't had beans in cake, but I've heard of that before when they've been promoting uses for food storage.

I love it when I end up loving something I wasn't expecting to love!

I've made black bean brownies and it was a holy disaster. Which likely says more about me than the recipe.

I'm so glad you're back to blogging. Your posts are such a ray of sunshine on the internet.

I have never tried black bean cake...but I have seen a recipe using beans in cookies. The warning was that you could not just eat and eat the cookies or you will pay for it later, if you know what I mean. I think it is really a clever idea though. Can you post the recipes?

I love beans! Marc likes them, too, but the kids are not fans. I've heard of pinto bean fudge, but never tried it. I'm curious about the cake!

YEAH for a new post!!! You have been missed!

Beans are great in brownies, etc... anything that calls for oil. No one will ever know and think of the extra fiber! HA!

Sounds like an interesting class. Are you Enrichment or Education?

Did you get recipes to post?
Sounds like an interesting class. As I serve in the RS presidency myself I often wish that women would just come to each once-a-month class because I know that they will always be pleasantly surprised and like it. Glad you went!

I will always feel so bad about making you and jeff bean enchiladas for dinner......before I knew you hated them!!! you both politely ate without saying a thing. I don't know how you did it!!!

Would you mind posting the recipe? It sounds like a great way of getting beans into my diet!
