My word of the year that I picked for myself is Stretch.
The reason I picked this word for the year is because I feel like there are some things in my life that come really easy to me. I tend to take advantage of these things and settle with them instead of using them as a head start and really push myself and run with them.
For example there have been many times I have spoken at church or given a lesson where I don't spend much time preparing or may even just stand up with little or no outline. In the end I do just fine, but always feel like if I would have taken those gifts and prepared or really "stretched" myself I would feel better and learned more.
I never stretch out before or after going to the gym. I can barely even touch my toes. I want to stretch myself physically this year just as well as mentally
I have Fibromyalgia and always feel like my body is in one big knot anyway and I know stretching would probably help it feel a lot better. I can't stand getting massages but always dream of getting on some stretching board and having 4 people pull me every-which-way.
So, this year I hope to take the talents I have been given and stretch them out a little more and see what they can do.
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”
Oliver Wendell HolmesThanks Michelle for encouraging us all to do this!
To someone who already does so much to share her talents, I can't wait to see where "stretching" takes you! Great word choice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great "theme"/goal!!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!
And I had no idea you have fibromyalgia! My MIL has this and it can be quite debilitating!
Very interesting word. I like this idea too. My word is proving to be very helpful in refocusing me on where I need to be. This is not the first year I have done this. When I have done it previously I have been very successful. There is something to having a focus on building a core strength or area that can benefit all the other areas of your life.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great word! I love how you described your intentions with it. I am still trying to discover my word. I know it will just come to me.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even see this post, I'm sad that it's hidden under the orange post (you've been doing tons of catching up eh?).
ReplyDeleteThis is a great word for the year and can apply to lots of areas of life. Good luck and happy stretching!
I love your word choice for this year. Now you just need a "Gumby" to look at as a reminder. I was always impressed by how far he could stretch and bend. Great word-here's to stretching more than you already do.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet spiritual stretch marks are beautiful. I'm truly inspired by your word - you took the time for some inner silence.
ReplyDeletethis is a great word kristi. i have been so inspired by everyone's words. they all make me think of doing more and being better. stretch is a wonderful one. and it will be really something to see where this takes you as i feel it would be a stretch for me to do half of what you do! ( :
ReplyDeleteThis is really a wonderful word! It is so easy to stay where we are comfortable, but it's so worth it to stretch a bit. Your new ward experience fits into this so well, too! I'm glad you shared your word!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great word! I love it. I don't stretch myself enough, either, physically, mentally or spiritually. I can't wait to see where you'll go if you stretch yourself a little further!
ReplyDeleteI love your 2007 word! I often feel inflexible (I can't touch my toes either) literally and figuratively. I never take the time to stretch before or after work outs, so much the hurry to get to the "stuff".
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you!
