Easter!
Well, ya'll know what is happening around our house. We are getting ready for the weekend holiday. Or actually we are already celebrating.
I bought this book, pictured above, A Christ Centered Easter. In hopes to change the way we celebrate Easter and remember what it is all about along with our fun springtime activities. (i can't give those up!)
This book is wonderful. It gives you a day by day starting on palm sunday of what Christ did His last week of life. Then everyday there are activities that we do to remember them. Here are a few.
We made palm branches and acted out the palm sunday play
we made a LOA (love one another) board where we all write things we love about each other during the week
we each picked a quality of Jesus that we will work on this week. (mine is patient)
we decided to give up T.V for the whole week. we are on day three so far so good.
tonight we are making oil lamps out of sculpty clay and talking about the 10 virgins

I know it is a little late notice about telling everyone about this book. but a must for next year. even if you adopted one new tradition. I have photos and will make a section in our smugmug.
i will post our easter bunny traditions by thursday to give you some time to try some if you want some new ideas.
care to share some of your easter traditions?

I love the idea of this book, and I wish I had centered our Easters more around Christ when you kids were growing up. I called up our little LDS bookstore here and they are saving me the 3 copies thay have. I'm giving them as gifts to Bevan and some friends who would have trouble finding one. I'm happy your daughters are hearing such taachings.

Excellent ideas Kristi (as usual). I like to make Easter more Christ-centered as well, so we do our Easter Egg hunt on a different day instead of Easter. We also don't give the kids their Easter baskets until after church--it's not a big deal. We talk about the real reason for Easter and why we celebrate it, but I'm sure we could do better with this.

What a great idea! I will have to look for this book. We could do better in this department.

I'm having my sister go pick it up for me in Vegas and priority mail it in the morning! I am so excited to be starting actual traditions of our own! (Well, ones that we copy from friends!)

I love this suggestion. We do alternative day hunts as well but I like the idea of including more teaching in addition to overload of the cutesy stuff on Easter Sunday. Thank you for the inspiration. We're going to be in Utah in a few days and I will definitely pick up a copy of the book.

I will have to look into this book. We pretty much to the same things as everyone else. We have the Easter egg hunt on Saturday and baskets after church. We had FHE on the resurrection (although our activity was coloring eggs) and have been reading about Christ the resurrection for scripture study this week. I love hearing all of your ideas. Perhaps I need a Kristi tab in my notebook to keep track of everything!
