Growing up as a kid I can remember each one of my 4 younger brothers being born. My Dad will go all out in announcing the births of his babies. We made big posters down at his office and would have them hanging when my mom got home. I remember one brother who weighted 10 pounds 4 ounces and this sign said, "10-4 good buddy"
He would also make handouts of sort with the babies name and weight on it. For one brother he wrapped little slips of paper on Tootsie pops and one brother taped little slips of paper like it was coming out of the Hershey kiss. He would then pass them out at work and we would at school.
This was also a tradition I carried on with my family and babies.
For my first daughter we made announcements for the "Newest member of the Tulane graduating class of 2025"for all of Jeff class mates in medical school. I remember how grateful I was that I was friends with the post guy at school as he slipped them all in their school mailboxes for me.
My second daughter we gave out little tins of m&m's at the hospital, had them at home for when friends stopped by and sent some with Annie Kate to school. These were made by the talented Stacy. These were from my shower but Stacy had ones that were all pink with Caroline's name on them. went to see the "She She Shower my friends gave me, oh my! it had a circle theme representing the circle of friends around me who love and support me.

For Sally Jane, I did bags of large gumballs that were pink and green tied with ribbon. The theme of her birth announcement was "New Chick in Town" and don't ask me why I didn't think us using chick peeps, it would have been perfect. I can't believe I don't have photos of them. But we gave them to all the nurses, people that visited us at home and sent some also to Annie Kate's school.

So, the whole point of this post is that these little handouts make great baby gifts. I made some for the new Scarlett Kate and sent them along with her gift. Most new moms are not printing, tying, gluing and embroidering the night before they go to the hospital (my poor husband) so it is a fun thing to bring them little "happies" announcing the baby.
thanks dad for the great ideas.of note, I always wanted to name a daughter Mary Jane. And these would have been the perfect little treat to go along with the birth announcement. So, if you ever use the name don't forget about these.

I am so happy to see those photos of your shower because I don't have a single one! I have just had to rely on my memory. That was so much fun to do for you. You have no idea how much fun. And I still love my apron. I just love announcing babies!!!! I should post all my "baby" ideas too.

Love the "new chick" idea. For our babies (all girls) we used the full size Hershey bars and covered up all of the letters except the "she" with a cardstock label for "It's a SHE" (you could leave HE for a boy). On the back we printed the birthdate, etc. Anything is better than cigars, right?!

Clever... we do this too....

For my daughter who we just finalized on Friday we did clear deli containers filled with pink cotton candy (super cheap...) and that awesome green and pink costco ribbon and put her name and finalizing date on it.... it really isn't that hard and it makes it more fun for everyone... love your ideas...

OK- the picture doesn't do these justice-They were just too cute!!! Everyone loved them, and of course thought I made them, so then I got to brag about you-Kristi!!! The kids had so much fun delivering to neighbors and I saved some for people who came over to visit as a little thank you for the gifts they brought. Kristi- you constantly amaze me with all your creativity and Scarlett Kate is so lucky to share in your talents! Thanks again! Love, Heather

I love that you've created an entire post label dedicated to 'Babies'! I just go goo-ey over anything baby-related.

Brilliant that your dad really got into the announcement traditions.

When I lived in Holland I noticed that it's a tradition over there to decorate the outside of the house when a new baby arrives home. They hung up a welcome banner (huge!) and strung baby clothes over the door, like a little washing line (cute!) and generally covered the garden and plants with bows and balloons. I've never seen it done like that her in Britain.

Heather is spot on - Scarlett is so blessed to have your talents around her!

Seriously, I should not be surprised that you have favors for your nurses. I definitely wasn't feel crafty after delivering my babies, especially the first one!

I love your ideas and am always glad you share them.

Party favors for the nurses! Gee, I never thought of that. Two of mine came early unexpectedly, so even if I did feel up to being crafty the night before (which I definitely wasn't), I would have missed the boat! You have more energy and ideas in your little finger than I do in all of me! Love it.
