Christmas is coming

So when you lug your kids out of their bed in a deep sleep at 7:00 am on a Saturday morning and make them put on Christmas dresses (total score - found them all from different sellers on ebay and they actually matched) to go stand at the Jefferson Memorial in the freezing cold with hair bows, it could only mean one thing... It is time to start thinking of Christmas cards.

I ordered mine last year for this year before I had even finished sending all of them out last year (does that make sense) They are printed and ready to go waiting for a photo. I promised myself this year I would do as much as I could ahead of time to focus on Christmas!
so thanks to our great photographer we will have a great photo and think we may actually have got some where one of them is not crying. Since Jeff just got braces (can't beat free braces!) it will just be the girls in the photo this year. Since I won't be using the cute crying ones, I had to post them here.

Am I the only one thinking Christmas cards already?

I still haven't thawed out from this morning, it was SO chilly out there! I love the one you posted here. I think it captured the mood of the morning perfectly! I hope that you have some good pictures to work with. The rapid shoot feature of digital SLR's definitely helps. Not to mention the fact that I was working with such darling subjects! I can't wait to see the finished project. Oh, and I'd actually like to see all of them, maybe I can come by sometime and get a slideshow? You'll probably post them all on smugmug though huh? That would also suffice.

You're the best!

I purchased my Christmas cards last year as well and then bought navy and white coordinating outfits for my family to match the cards. Insane. Anyway, we took the photo this summer and mine are ready to go. My husband thinks I'm nuts but I love having the cards checked off my to do list. Now I can sit back and enjoy everyone else's cards as they come in the mail. Cute dresses.

Funny. I got on here to say that I also bought my cards last year (after Christmas) and now I really want to get the photo taken, the letter written, or at least address the envelopes. Then I realized that the only other person (so far) who is thinking the same way is my sister Brooke. She (and you) are ahead of me, though!

Cute photos! You can use the crying ones with a title " you better not cry you better not pout"...my Mom did that one year as the photo of the grandkids half of them were in tears. It was really a fun card.
I have been thinking about my cards as well and kicking myself that I didn't take better family photos when all the leaves where amazing! Oh well - next year!
Can't wait to see the finished product!
7am though? Ouch! :-)

Good one... you have inspired me...

I LOVE Annie Kate's dress. It is grown up looking but also sweet and not too "old". Good choice. That is a tricky thing to find, huh?

Where did you get your cards from? I need to do that next year...

WE did our cards already. Earlier in Oct the kids were off school for fair day so I had the photographer meet us at the park. Kim just got braces too and I hate being in pics, so ours will be just of Luci and Griffin too. I got matching outfits from Orient Expressed - bought them 50% off last season! We had plenty of crying pics too as Griffin was not thrilled about having to wear knee socks. . .

You got your Christmas cards PRINTED? Fancy!

I am thinking about Christmas cards, but haven't done anything yet. You are quite the go-getter!

I just read Lisa's better not pout idea. SO GREAT! Almost good enough that I want to go MAKE my kids have a sad picture. That might be going too far though.

It is super COLD and windy here today also! Brrr! The girls look cold. Oh the things we have to go through for fashion and Christmas card pictures!

I've thought about ours, but I think I might just use a family pic we had taken this summer.

Mom and I worked on ours together the night after Halloween. I fought the urge to crank on the Christmas music, but thought I will hold off at least a week more ! :)

Love the dresses! And the sweet, sad faces of cold little girls! Way to be on top of things!

Thanks for posting your info on the sidebar about training for a marathon! How inspiring that you started almost from scratch and came so far!

I bought all the supplies for them 75% off after Christmas last year and we took our pictures a couple of weeks ago. Now I JUST need to put them together. What darling dresses on your darling girls.

i am thinking of christmas (and my thoughts have been pink! eeeekk!) and i will admit that christmas cards are something that i try to love b/c that is the whole point after all, but i will admit they stress me out to no end. every year.

we have done new year cards for the past few years so that helps a bit but our late december/through jan schedule is very hectic this year so really, i should get them done early. like now. won't happen but it is a nice thought!

bek - annie kate does not like the dress and thinks she looks like a pilgram - but that makes me love the dress even more. i am keeping that girl young as long as i can.

Love the dresses! I can not wait to see the picture you use. Christmas will be here so soon! I like to send my cards out early so in less than a month I will mail mine. I am also someone who likes to get Christmas cards early from others.. that way I can enjoy them longer :o)

Oh my goodness, I want to see all the outtakes from this photo shoot, they must be hilarious.

I'm hoping to get a good family picture of us while we're on vacation in California in a week or so, otherwise I'm thinking about using one of the many self-portraits we've taken this year. Who knows?

Nope, I'm thinking Christmas cards. I too want to have more time to enjoy the holidays this year. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas for my cards yet, nor do I have outfits! I'm definitely not as on the ball as you are. I'm jealous!

I have thought about it, but haven't done anything just yet. But hopefully this year we can get our photos taken before Thanksgiving break!!!

medication - yes I think I need some but it is so nice to know that I am not alone. Before blogging, I didn't know anyone who obsessed like I about things like C'mas cards. Maybe other are in-the-closet obsessors.

Oh those are great outtakes!

I have thought about Christmas cards now twice thanks to this post. No clue what we are doing yet- but now I feel like I have time because this was a great reminder!

I am definitely thinking about cards and photos. And I've been stressing over matching/coordinating the kids for several weeks! I have never done the printed photo card before, b/c I like to write long notes, but I am looking to somehow do both...any suggestions??

You have found some great dresses on ebay. You probably don't want to give away your secrets here, but I would love to know what search words you are entering!

I am thinking Christmas cards all year long. We camp a lot, which gives me the benefit of tons of great scenery for photo ops - the boys get pretty tired of wearing matching clothes while camping - but I never know when the perfect shot will present itself ;-) Okay, I don't always make them wear matching clothes - but it does happen several times through the year!!

Now we've seen the 'behind the scenes' images, it will be interesting to see the 'official' image and see what good actresses your girls are ;-P

I designed something just after last Christmas for THIS Christmas' cards, so I'll have to remember that I've already got an idea!

We don't do the photograph thing over here with Christmas cards. I don't know anyone who puts themselves on their cards. We're still stuck in the 'robin perched on a Royal Mail pillarbox' era :-/

If I promise not to steal your auctions, will you share your ebay secrets?
