A peek through the window.

I have always said if you want to see how you are doing as a parent buy your kids the Fisher Price doll house and watch your kids play. They always seem to imitate what is going on in your home.
This was the scene the other day through the playhouse window.
Mary, Baby Jesus, the Shepherd, Joseph and one wise man who came over to watch T.V.

Noteable comments of late from the kids

"Mom, Jesus totally loves me"
Caroline age 4
Sally Jane, "Mom what is that?" (pointing to a boy in a picture book)
Mom, "It is the brother. Do you want a brother?"
"No, I want a cat?"
Sally Jane age 2

It is sobering and funny to hear them "parent". Sometimes so sweet and I am so proud, and then I hear "Stella, ya gotta quit crying!" oops!

Your daughters are so lovely!

Thanks for leaving the link on my blog for Lisa Leanord Designs. I love this idea and will do it for myself this year. I think I even have a word but I'm going to let it stew for the next 4 or 5 weeks first... Thank you!

I love that Jesus and his Mom can come over to play. I'm sure they were watching a great documentary that you show the girls. No worry. Caroline and Sally Jane are such dolls!

I hear Mya playing all the time or talking to Kaylee when I am not in the room. Very telling.

The cat instead of a brother actually happened in this house ;)

so so true! i love to hear ellie playing mama. at her parent teacher conference, her teacher commented that she hears a lot of "me" during the day in ellie's play. that made me smile...

What lovely snippets. I like that you've given the girls free rein to play with their nativity figures. I don't suppose it's a good thing to have them think a nativity scene is some untouchable shrine-like object. In that way, a nativity scene would become nothing better than another TV screen.

I know what you mean about listening to your kids play as a way to know how you're doing as a parent. Whenever I listen to Whitney playing with her cousins or friends I'm shocked by the things I hear her say. She is very concerned about cleaning up messes and following the rules, though she never seems to do those things on her own any other time!

Adorable. I've heard myself more than once in their voices. Sometimes I'm not too proud but once in a while they repeat something good. Phew for not totally blowing it!

Too cute! My daughter has that doll house too, I listen to her play with it quite a bit. Just yesterday she was playing school with it and all the little figures were sitting on the floor in nice straight lines. I mentioned it to my daughter and she was like look how nice they are sitting, just like she does at school when they have story time.
