The Cadbury Egg is like my
Grandmother's house.

You know when you are little and you think your Grandma's house is so huge and then you grow up and think, "wow, this has shrunk" then you realize it is just you who got bigger.
that is how I felt when I bought my first Cadbury Egg this season, (my all time favorite Easter candy)
The fact I paid $.89 (I can remember paying $.25 cents each when I was a kid) already had me irritated but them when I opened it to eat it I said, "They made them smaller this year"
So if you google search "shrinking Cadbury Egg" it appears I am not the only who feels this way. Even BJ Novak "the Office" talked about it on late night T.V. in 2007.
. . . . . . .
During an interview on the April 4th, 2007 episode of Late Night with Conan O' Brien, actor B. J. Novak drew attention to the fact that American market Cadbury Creme Eggs have decreased in size from previous years, despite the claim on the Cadbury's website FAQ that the eggs were not getting smaller, but rather, "you've just grown up!"This FAQ has since been altered to clarify that only American eggs have altered in size.
. . . . . . .
So, i am not sure if it is just that my hands are bigger than last year or if they are indeed smaller, I just know I still love them. And will likely never forgive my brother, Ryan, for calling this year and telling me about the Orange filled ones - oh la la!
Look at all the kinds they make.
  • Mini Creme Eggs (bite-sized Creme Eggs)
  • Caramel Eggs (soft caramel filling)
  • Mini Caramel Eggs (bite-sized Caramel Eggs)
  • Chocolate Creme Eggs (chocolate fondant filling)
  • Orange Creme Eggs (Creme Eggs with a hint of orange flavor)
  • Mint Creme Eggs (green "yolk" and mint flavor chocolate)
  • Dairy Milk with Creme Egg bars
  • Creme Egg Fondant in a Narrow Cardboard Tube (limited edition)
  • Creme Egg ice cream with a fondant sauce in milk chocolate
  • Dream Eggs (white chocolate with white chocolate fondant filling)
I think people either love these things or hate them.
How about you? do you love them or walk right past them? Do you think they are smaller?

Yikes, I'll have to send you a specimen British Creme Egg to compare, Kristi. *thinking how to package a creme egg safely????*
Purely for scientific purposes, you understand...

My mum always said I should 'hand-model' for a chocolate company as I have quite small hands. She said, 'They deliberately use people with small hands to hold the bars, so they look bigger'. I don't know if that's true, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I always thought Curly Wurlys got smaller as I grew up. Do you have those?

oh my curly wurly's i think they are the same things but here they were called marathon bars. and they were huge!!! i had not seen them in years and actually did some research on them and found out they Cadubury made the curly wurly. it was close but not the same because it was so thin and small.
are they like a braided chocolate caramel.
i can only imagine what wonderful treats you have there that we don't have.
i wonder i have here that you would love.

Oh my, I wish you didn't tell me about the mint ones. I will be thinking about them until I find them and try them!

I.love.those.eggs.

They do seem smaller- but probably because when I was smaller one would make me sick- now I could eat like 3 before my stomach started to ache. They are .50 at WalMart right now...

thankfully i can walk right by them. i don't need any other temptations!!

I must admit I am not a fan of the creme egg. I'm not sure why - there is chocolate involved --
I do, however, love other forms of cadbury chocolate...

The carmel ones are absolutely amazing~
I love them... I didn't realize there were so many different kinds!

My very favorite candy bar was for sure the Marathon bar. I know they don't make them anymore- I've looked into it- but apparently people request them all the time. I loved the ruler on the back. My mom would let us pick out a bar & we always got those or Flicks - do you remember those? I don't know why I liked them If I remember right they tasted like wax.

Hey Kristi
Cadbury Chocolate - well it is an Australian Institution - but I think the company has now been sold to an American company, but originally was Australian owned. My sister in laws, brother in law (hope you follow that)used to be a managing director of Cadbury Austrlia, the offices and manufacturing plants are in Melbourne. We can actually go to a seconds store that is attached to the warehouse and buy bags and bags of seconds - I havent actually done it, but its interesting to note that Cadbury is so popular there. I have found that some of the chocolate bars offered here are slightly different when you buy them in the US, they have actually changed the bar so when I go to Houston and buy a Mars bar its nothing like the Mars bar I would buy at home. Curley Wurleys are in all the shops here - supermarkets, 7-11's and milk bars!!! Yum Yum Yum.

As far as I know the Creme Egg has been the same size since I have lived in Australia (since 1982)-I dont actually like them - gasp!!!, so maybe it is because we have all gotten bigger that we think they are smaller.
Have a great day - Mandi

I do like these, but still prefer the Cadbury chocolate eggs. I think they have shrunk too!

I usually walk right past them in favor of the mini ones in a candy shell. But now that I know they make orange and mint-flavored ones, I might not be able to walk right past... pretty funny about them getting smaller. And I have never heard of curly wurlys!

Ug, even as a kid I'd prefer jelly beans. I like the Snickers Eggs that are out now. The only way to describe it is that it is the freshest snickers you have ever eaten!

Like the chocolate, hate the goo. Although, I haven't tried the creative "other" fillings yet. Who knows maybe I'll pick one up this year. I don't think I have tried them since I was a kid.

Mmmm. . .Cream Eggs. I love, love love them, but I walk right past them! Well, I let myself have one a season, but they're usually a disappointment. They're not all soft and flowy inside when I buy them. I think it's because I usually wait until the end of the Easter candy season. Maybe I should go find one today! Do a little experiment for everyone's sake. If I have such philanthropic motivation do you think that delicious cream will park itself on my hips?

Hmmm, I am not the biggest fan of these things. But, it doesn't surprise me that they have shrunk in size. They already did that to ice cream containers. I will have to ask my friend Chels to send some from the Cadbury place in Australia!

i just got back from a trip to London and there were signs on all the bus stops advertising McDonald's McFlurrys with Cadbury eggs...I didn't try one (they don't really do it for me) but I knew there were a few bloggers out there that love them!

I am embarrassingly addicted to the Mini Creme Eggs. I had 9 pkgs of them in my last Target cart. (*blush*)

I am one who just walks right by. I don't like creme eggs. I am a huge fan of mini robins eggs though. Can't get enough of those!
