The dresses the girls wore on the day Sally Jane was given a name and a blessing

White Dress

On our last Sunday downtown as we walked away from our many new found friends one of the last conversations we had, we learned that one family was getting ready to go to the temple for the first time as a family with their ever so cute 2 year old girl. I asked the mom if she had a white dress for her daughter to wear and she did not.
I am a huge fan of white dresses for girls and have many in many different sizes and told her that I would send her one in the mail. even one in my size - this is me in my good mail white dress prompted by and SPT last year. this was our family the day of our private white house tour last year.Last Year the girls photos we took on the day of Spring General conferencecaroline just a year and a half old
Easter 2007

So I knew exactly which one I would give to this mother to have her little girl wear. I don't keep all the girls clothes even though I would like to - just the smocked and real sentimental ones. Even though this dress was in my keep box, I knew it would do much more good to be given away then to pull out of a box to show my girls in 20 years.

So goodbye White dress -
have a wonderful day next week in the most beautiful place in the world!

What a treasure, and what a sweet gesture in giving away the dress. All of the white -dress pictures are beautiful, but the girls' smiling faces are the most remarkable of all. A beautiful gift indeed. SEC

What a sweet little white dress. I don't even have children but when I find a cute little dress for one of my nieces that I fall in love with I ask their moms to give them back to me when they grow out of them so that I can, hopefully, have one of my little girls wear them one day or perhaps use them in some way to make a sentimental gift for my sweet nieces.
What a lucky little white dress - it gets to have a special adventure!

Kristi~how generous & thoughtful you are!

Can you tell me where you buy the beautiful smocked dresses? Or maybe you can share some of your favorite places to shop for your kids~

Thanks for sharing this wonderful post!

How special to share a gift like that! I am sure your gift will inspire that mom to repay the favor to someone else one day.

I love both my kids in all white - Strasburg Children is a favorite.

Kristi, what a treasure! I love the last line you wrote, it gave me chills. I know that dress will be a treasure once they enter the temple. Once again, blessings for you because of the service you give.

you made a family very happy, i am quite sure...

just as you said, the very reason i am able to part with favorite things (toys, clothing, books and so on) is that I tell myself (and the girls!) that the new owner will get so much joy out of the item as we have and how special it is.

Oh Kristi! I am flooded with emotion by this post. I just went with my husband and two little boys in Novemeber. You are right...the most beautiful place in the world. As I was thinking of this post and also the post about your last Sunday and your experience down town and how you recorded that I thought of something I did that you should encourage her to do. Ask her to journal about it but also, even though her little is only two...ask her little girl how she felt, what it looked like ETC... and write it down. My little guys' responses were priceless about that most beautiful place in the world and I am soooo glad that I wrote it down. How sweet of you to share your dress...I am sure she will cherish it!

You are so thoughtful. I really admire the ability to sense someones need and being able to fill it.
The dress was very pretty.
The biggest problem with pretty dresses is that I only let My girl wear them on Sundays...or that is when they are worn. They never seem to actually get their full use.
I need to let her wear them much more frequently.

What a sweet, thoughtful thing to do!! We just blessed our precious little girl last week in a most meaningful dress...it was made from the material my wedding dress was made from by my loving mother. Amazing how a simple dress can be such a treasure!

That is so nice of you! I'm sure the mother will be very grateful. I love all of the pictures of your girls in white dresses. If I have any little girls someday, I think I'll start collecting white dresses too!
