a new before pile
and a story about someone who
did not read my interblog memo

This morning Caroline woke up not feeling so great and wanted to make a new mini soupie. She went through the fabric closet but could not find anything she wanted. She asked if we could go to the fabric store and had exactly in mind what she wanted. How could I turn down a 4 year old getting the sewing-designing itch.
She was so cute picking through the minkie fabrics knowing just what she wanted. She touched every bolt.
Then as we went through the check out she started to fade and I could tell she had a fever. I was holding her in my arms and trying to pay. The cashier looked up at me and said, (you are not going to believe this by the way!!) Are you PREGNANT? my heart skipped a beat and I said , "excuse me?" I love making people ask again hoping it will make them feel worse and she did. Are you pregnant? I took a deep breath and said, "yes I am!" I had never answered like this before but thought it might be fun to see how far my little lie would go.(bad choice it was not fun!) She then asked me when I was due and I said "oh a couple months" (the fact she believed that made me feel worse, I am not doing this again!)- she then asked if I was going to find out if it was a boy (as I was standing there with two girls) and I said, "no I love a good surprise!". She then said boy you are going to be busy! - and I was think"ya busy crying in my car after I leave here!"
Why - Why -Why am I on some secret camera T.V. show to see how long it takes to ask a non pregnant woman if she is pregnant before she goes completely crazy!
I am hoping a good day of sewing will rid me of my anxiety of leaving my house. Seriously at church yesterday I was praying, "please don't let anyone ask me if I am pregnant?' how sad is that!

Kristi - I've only been on your blog a few times, but I have caught your two "are you pregnant" posts. I'm one of the fortunate ones who gets ask that question also. My response is always, "no,that's just left overs from the first five!" I feel your pain!

Oh Kristi, I am so sorry this had to happen to you again! What is up with the universe???

Seriously, you should have handed her a shoe and said "Open up!"

You know, there is this Dad in my ward who has 9 kids, and he was talking to me last week, and I noticed he kept checking out my belly area, and I was thinking to myself, "you better not ask!!" Thank goodness he didn't, but seriously, just because my youngest is 2 1/2 years old does not mean I am pregnant.

By the way, I think it is so sweet how Caroline wanted to maker her own soupie and knew just what she wanted. You are such a good mom!

That is so crazy! I saw you last week, and I did NOT think you looked pregnant!!
:)

I love the soupie story. How wonderful that Caroline can be soothed by fabric and the love that you put into making something just for her!

your fabric pile is gorgeous!

I think you look amazing and so fit! I can't even believe that people ask you that, based on the pictures of you on your blog...

Chin up!!! Love how much you're posting lately! :O)

So, you don't know me but I found your blog through my cousins blog...I love reading about all of your great ideas. I'm so sorry people keep asking you that dreaded question! It happens to me all the time! I really want another child and we are having a hard time getting pregnant so that just adds to the frustration of having people ask. I feel your pain. I just look them in the eye and say "NO!" And then I wait...I feel bad making them feel stupid but it has to be done. They have to learn! Believe me, they will never ask another woman that question again! Just know your not the only one.

I am so sorry that this has happened again. I thought that I was reading something that had happened to me!
In January, I was at the fabric store when the cashier asked me how far along I was. I also lied (because I am NOT pregnant) and told her 4 months. Things got worse when she was surprised, because "I looked so much bigger!"
What made it all worse was that I was doing a weight loss challenge and had lost 25lbs! I had joked that morning with my husband that I didn't look 6 months pregnant anymore, maybe just 4. haha I guess I was wrong.
I have decided that I won't be lying anymore - I just end up feeling even worse. :(
I hope that this never happens to you again.

I am so sorry, again.
Keep those positive thoughts..
Its hard to forgive those people that make such rude comments, unknowingly.
I love the blanket story, and that you stopped whatever you were going to do to make one for her today. What a mom!

I love Caroline touching every bolt of fabric in the store. So cute and after your heart for sure.

Sorry about the pg comment. I agree with Michelle. Start a comeback post and see which ones are your favorites. It's always better to have a little ammo.

How fantastic that you took that opportunity to make yet another soupie for your cute little!
I am speechless about the gal at the checkout. Honestly - who are these people? I just sent you an email...

I don't know who these people are and why they keep harassing you like this. Hopefully being able to blog about it takes the edge off a little bit, at least that's what I tell myself whenever something humiliating happens to me.

Kristi, I just can't understand all these people! Honestly, where are their manners? And though I haven't met you in person, I've never ever seen a photo of you where I thought you looked pregnant. I'm sorry!

You are a sweet mom to take Caroline soupy supply shopping.

Kristi

I know why they are asking you if you are pregnant!!! ITS BECAUSE WHEN YOU WALK AROUND YOU GLOW, you give off a healthy happy warm feeling to everyone who comes into contact with you, so dont get upset when someone says it just think WOW I am lookin good today!!! It has nothing to do with your size - its the glow!!!! Have a great week - from Mandi in Australia x x x

Ick.... I e mailed you before about this.

I am pretty sure they were commenting on your radiance.. you DO NOT LOOK PREGNANT...... what is wrong with people.

Next time, you can just say "oh, you should never ask that".

I can't believe it... too bad Caroline didn't throw up right about them. That would serve her right.

It's gotta be the glow-
I wish I looked as good as you right now!

Urgh, that's just awful if you're not. Ummm...I feel bad for you, Kristi. I'd love if you WERE though! I'm amazed someone asked you like that. I'd never dare say that, for exactly the reason you're describing.

I was once asked if I was Chinese. I felt terrible. Not that I have anything against Chinese people, but it's such a shock if you're SO NOT the thing people are asking you about. (I'd dyed my hair black, it was long, and plaited in two plaits - that's why I think the man thought I was Chinese - and it was dark. Dear oh dear!)

I think it's a hoot, too, that you strung the girl along!
