one of my monograms on a clear acrylic clipboard
Givewaway!
Monogram Magic!

I have a friend, Writing on the Wall, who is a monogram magician. You name it she can find a way to monogram it and personalize it. She was a Pink Christmas sponsor for 2007 and is doing a Giveaway this week.

This year along with my word of the year I also picked a quote. I had her work her magic and make it into a removable non-sticky adhesive to put on my mirror so I could see it every day.
"if you aren't moving at a snail pace, you aren't moving at all"
I love seeing it in my bathroom every day! So she wants to give one away to someone too! but that is not all.
she also made my word of the year into a cool weather resident tag for my car! It will only come off when you want it off and does not leave any sticky residue.I absolutely love it. She wants to give you one of these too for you to put anywhere to remind yourself of your word of the year. (how cute would these be for all you SPT girls to order to put on your car!)

Then as if it could not get any better. She made a few Monogram Magic labels for me to put anywhere I wanted to. I put one on my Girls Camp notebook
I put this awesome big one on my Embroidery Machine cover. I so love how this works and am amazed at easy it was to put on. - but again can be removed any time I would need to removed it.
then I used one to make a cover for book I had spiral bound. I cut two pieces of plastic place mats (thanks Stacy for the awesome place mats) the size of the book for the front and back. took it to any Paper copier store (I used Staples) had the book bound with a clear plastic cover over the front. Then placed my monogram on top of the front place mat! Total for coil binding with tax $3.11. I love it, and guess what book it is....my manual for Relief Society. You can take any book into Kinko's or Staples to get a coil binding put on it!

So if you would like to win the following:
  • your quote of the year
  • 3 removable tags of your word of the year
  • 2 removable tags with your custom made monogram
  • all in the color of your choice
Just leave a comment with one of your favorite quotes.
Lauralee will select the winner next Monday

Here are a few other ideas I think these would be great for.
Get a Happy Birthday set to decorate your friends car with for their birthday
or Just Married or Happy Graduation. No more yucky shoe polish!
Get one with your last name made for your mailbox
Great way to label diaper wipes containers or any plastic kids item
have a large monogram put on the glass of your shower door.
You could put a cute quote on the top of your washer or dryer.
Check out her site for even more fun and creative ideas.
She is a magician and can do anything you can think up!!

{don't forget to enter and tell your friends.}

This is one of my favorite quotes by Audrey Hepburn. It's just so inspiring! Thanks Kristi for also always inspiring me in blogging, creativity, and growing!
"for beautiful lips, speaks words of kindness

for lovely eyes, seek out the good in people

for a slim figure, share your food with the hungry

for beautiful hair, let a child run their hands through it

for poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone."

Kristi, I love what you did with your monograms, and if I had my own copy of Joseph Smith manual (our ward is out), I'd do the same thing. So stinkin' cute!

Here is a quote I recently found, which I really like, because I am really striving for peace within my home this year.

"He is the happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in his home."
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Those monogram items are the coolest! I would love to win!

My favorite quote of the past few years is actually a bible verse.

Psalm 46:10
Be still and know that I am God.

When I start to get anxious and worried about whatever is going on in my life and my inability to control it, I recite this verse to myself and remember that if things aren't going according to my plan, that is okay - my plan isn't the plan that matters!

I love your idea for covering your RS manual!! Wow!

The quote I'm loving is:

Live in the moment and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering.

One of these years I want to make your beautiful easter egg tree- I love it and it's so pretty. Do you think it is two 3-year old proff? Speaking of a 3 year old, this morning Weston looked at my tummy and then immediately asked, "Mom, when is the other one coming out?"

I read this quote this week, and since I share a birthday with George, it seemed appropriate!

I truly believe this. We can only be happy if we are living a moral life!

Awesome give-away!

My favorite quote the past couple years has been "Rest and be Thankful". I need it to help me remember to SLOW DOWN and be grateful for what I already have!!

I LOVE the RS manual too - such a great idea!

This is kind of a long quote but lately it's the one that keeps coming to my mind, especially when my branch president told me in certain words that I needed to relax and not try to be perfect - just do the best I can and be happy with it.

“Rise to the great potential within you. I do not ask that you reach beyond your capacity. I hope you will not nag yourselves with thoughts of failure. I hope you will not try to set goals far beyond your capacity to achieve. I hope you will simply do what you can do in the best way you know how. If you do so, you will witness miracles come to pass.” - Pres. Gordon B. Hinckley

My favorite is "What would you attempt to accomplish if you knew you could not fail?"

My quote this year for myself is "No More Excuses".

My word for the year is: Shine

Somewhere over the years of being a new mother and wife I forgot that I have many talents and the ability to be an inspiration in many lives. This year I want to shine for my family, in my community and in my church callings.

I can no longer hide my light under a bushel!

Thanks,

E.M.P.

Everyone has such dynamite quotes! My word for the year is EFFORT and my quote of the year is as follows....

About the only thing that comes to us without effort is old age. ~Gloria Pitzer

It's hard sometimes for me to remember that indeed, everything that is worthwhile takes effort.

Thanks for the great idea about your RS book! I'm all over that....hope you don't mind...what do they say...mimicking is the best form of flattery?

And I love the cover for your RS manual. I am in Primary, and only half the time, do I remember to read the lesson from RS. I will have to copy this idea!

This quote from Woodsworth would be so great to display somehow in my baby's room using this idea!

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life’s Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come
From God, who is our home:
Heaven lies about us in our infancy!

I believe you should start saying to people when they ask if you are pregnant, "Why would you ask a question like that?" Ann Landers says it is best to answer a nosy (sp?) question with a question. Honestly, does the checker at Joann's really care? It is hard to believe that any woman doesn't know not to EVER ask that question!

My favorite quote is from a book I read this Fall in my bookclub, "....that as long as we are being remembered, we remain alive." from The Shadow of the Wind

My word is ADAPT and this is my favorite adapt quote right now:

My word for the year is "enrich" to remind me to enrich my family in every way: spiritually, mentally, physically. The quotes I have would take up a whole wall but I really love the simple definition: en·rich (Ä•n-rÄch')
rich·es.
1. To make rich or richer.
2. To make fuller, more meaningful, or more rewarding:
3. To add nutrients to:
4. To add to the beauty or character of; adorn

My favorite quote is "To be or not to be that is the question" by the quote master William Shakespeare. I love this quote because it is a great teaching tool. I often use it as a way to emphasize the importance of an education to my 8th students. When you choose "to be" you are choosing a path of knowledge and life learning. On the other hand, when you choose "not to be" you are choosing a dangerous path that could lead to many disappointments in your life.

Have a great day!

What great items. How fun. My word for the year is Love and my quote is long.

"Life is a Series of opportunities to learn to love purely and to show that love by our actions- anytime, anywhere, under any circumstance. Each opportunity taken opens broader, deeper, and more challenging vistas, When anyone acts out of pure love to help others in a truly unselfish way, that love sets in motion eternal waves of beauty, goodness, and blessings that never end. “ ~Elder John H. Groberg

If I ordered one I would shorten it to:
"love sets in motion eternal waves of beauty"

That speaks to me so strongly right now.

Anonymous said...

Everyone has such great quotes. I am embarassed to admit that I don't even shoot as high as most of these... I am thinking of setting the bar a bit lower and being happy with "motion". Maybe momentum would be a better one...

We are about to have our 4th child who we know has Down Syndrome. Our 18 month old was just diagnosed with a brain tumor. Our 3 yr old is a normal 3 yr old (but that means a LOT of work and, well, motion) and our 7 year old has suddently realized that drama (as in being a "drama queen" is FUN--again normal, but with its own special brand of work). At the top of it all, my husband has left the religion that we share and I find myself more than ever needing the guidence that is not really a constant presence in our home.

I don't share these things because I feel sorry for myself (frankly, I am very, very blessed) but because sometimes it really is all I can do to not want to throw myself on the floor (like the three year old) and just cry and not move, ever again!!!! Wouldn't that be fun. I figure as long as I am moving, I am moving (either direction, some days) is good. At least it isn't stagnent. Some years are just like that. :-) Next year we will shoot for something more deep.

What reminds me of this is a quote that I hear a million years ago and has stuck in my brain

Some ships sail east
some ships sail west
with every wind that blows

But, it's the set of sail
and not the gale
that determines
where she goes...

AND--

You can choose to laugh or cry, they both take about the same amount of energy...

:-)

I am doing this annon b/c many people I know IRL read this....

Okay, so I realized my last comment, I forgot to post my 2008 word, so here goes again. My word for the year is "become." I want to be better, and be who God wants me to be. And this is a quote from one of my current favorite songs by Josh Kelley (I think it accurately sums up what I'm going for):

"You are not alone, you are what you believe. You are not alone, you're a part of everything."

I'm going to try and become what I believe, along the way coming to a realization and understanding of "being a part of everything."

One of my favorite quotes that I have on a piece of paper on my refrigerator is "the choices you make determine the life you live". I try to clear everything off of my fridge and can't bring myself to take that piece of paper down.
Kristi- I love the idea of having a "word" for the year. So at the beginning of January, I chose "meaning" as my word this year. I want to understand the meaning of everyday things that I might normally just pass by as well as the deeper meanings in life.

My goal this year is to CREATE the balance I have been working on & CREATE the life I am meant to live.

Great giveaway, Kristi -- I love the decal on your car! I can just see the "free" on the back of my van. And the giant monogram on your sewing machine case, just perfect. (It makes me wish I had a hard case instead of a soft carrier!)

I have so many favorite quotes, it is hard to choose one. And this one is LONG, so obviously not one to do in vinyl. But I love it so much:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Okay, so I have never commented on your blog before, but reading your blog has inspired me to choose a word of the year. My word is KIND. It is a simple thing, but it seems like in the rush of life and parenthood, I don't always do the extra things it takes to truly be kind. I grouch at my children to hurry up, to not fight, to do their homework, etc., and I find myself missing the everyday opportunities for kindness. The quote that goes with it "Kindness begins with me" is simple, yet powerful. We are each in charge of our own actions, and think of what a difference we could all make in the world if we incorporated more kindess, service and love into our lives.

My word is persevere, and some days that is hard to do. So my quote is similar to yours in that it says, "By perseverance the snail reached the ark." Boy, I feel like a snail today, that's for sure.

My quote is a little different. My word of the year is PLACES. I know that it's a little different than most but each letter means something important. My quote is from Dr. Seuss's book Oh the places you'll go. It says
"You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!"
Dr. Seuss
This quote inspires me to keep climbing my own mountains and to always keep my goals in mind.

I have hesitated to pick out a specific word that I could use for the year, but it really did come to me last night that I am seeking to have PEACE in my life -- peace of mind, peace in my heart, peace in my relationships, peace on earth. Even if I don't win, I'm going to make a big fat order! I love these fun things--esp the car sticker!

My word for the year is "MOMENTS," and here is the origin, which is a segment from Rob Thomas' song "Little Wonders."

"our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain."

I had been thinking of how a person's memory of their life is not comprised of one long, continuous timeline. We don't remember our lives like a movie, non-stop. We remember our lives in short bursts..."pieces" of our lives. And as a mother, I want my kids' short memory bursts--their MOMENTS--to be happy and wonderful. I want to take advantage of the opportunities that different MOMENTS present me. I want to teach rather than yell (haha--good luck to me!), I want to laugh and I want to be in the MOMENT with my kids.

Thanks for such a great contest, Kristi! I'm just going to cut & paste this comment on my blog to journal my word!

Hi! I learned so much last year in gospel doctrine class. I can finally go after so many years in primary, so I'm happy. Anyway, while studying 3John last fall, I came across 3John 1:4 and thought 'wow, he just said exactly what I feel'. I couldn't believe it! So, I painted it on my wall around a framed painting of Mary teaching the boy Jesus to pray. (I love that painting!) Anyway, if I chose a word for this year it would be "joy". My true joy comes in knowing that my kids have a testimony of the gospel and are living righteous lives. I would love for you to come up with some other creative way to display this favorite verse of mine. Thanks! P.S. I love Lauralee - she's the awesomest!

My word for the year is SIMPLIFY and my quote is: Our priorities determine what we seek in life. (Dallin H. Oaks)

It all came about because of the book I've been reading called Simplify-a guide for caring for the soul by Carolyn Rasmus. Such a great book for me right now.

She quotes "I have come to believe that to simplify our lives goes beyond mere management of outside interferences, such as interrupting phone calls and hectic schedules; it is far more than organizing closets or cleaning out unwanted or unused things that clutter our homes. To simplify is about enhancing our ability to focus on things that really matter, to deliberately choose our priorities, and to refuse to let unimportant things take over the things of real importance."

This is what I need this year!

What a fun looking monogram. Love It!!

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

"Don't give up on what you REALLY want for what you want right now"

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

"I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

I love quotes that inspire me to be a better person and get the most out of life.

I posted this quote when you had your contest for our word--but I still love it.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small Does not serve the world. It's not just in some of us; It's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates others.”--Marianne Williamson

for something different ( I saw someone else already posted this, but it is my offical quote), but since then I found this one and it is awesome too!

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenck's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheeks and tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -marjorie pay hinckley, wife of the prophet.

For simplicity's sake, what I would proable post would be:
"Do or do not, there is no try"--Master Yoda
We have used this for several years with my boys who love Star Wars!

My word for the year is "charity. So I have been trying to do something each day for someone else. My favorite quote that has to do with charity is "Selfless service is a wonderful antidote to the ills that flow from the worldwide epidemic of self-indulgence. Some grow bitter or anxious when it seems that not enough attention is being paid to them, when their lives would be so enriched if only they paid more attention to the needs of others."
-David S. Baxter

Kind of long, but I feel like we all suffer from self-indulgence and feeling like we aren't appreciated (which we are not) and this is a better remedy than wishing and waiting for acknowledgment from husband and children.
