snowy sunday

it just feels so much like Christmas time with snow all over the ground. This will probably the last year of the girls wearing the Red Wool Santa Coat I made for Annie Kate years ago. I am sad to retire this coat. I made it with $1.00 a yard red wool when I lived in Nashville. The first Sunday of the month in December our church congregation does a Christmas program with the young women and women at our church for the third hour (yep I go to church for 3 hours)
It is always pretty amazing and a great way to start the month. Our young women and leaders sang a song together that was so beautiful. The young women have no idea I have a total fear of singing in public and pretty much pull a Milli Vanilli anytime we sing.
We have 4 sisters and one sister in law in our ward. All 5 of them sang a Christmas song that I could not even tell you what it was because I was just crying seeing all of them sing - not only are they all stunning and beautiful but they all really love each other. It was really the favorite part of the day for me. I feel lucky to be in their ward and they are great examples of what I dream of for my girls.
Another woman in our ward sang an Amy Grant Christmas song - Breath of Heaven. Where I have I been? I think I am the only person left in the world who has not heard this song before. I was numb listening to it. The gal who sang it just delivered her 7th child and is probably the biggest rock I know when it comes to being a mom - she is amazing and I don't know anyone else who could have delivered the spirit she did when she sang because of who she is.

The above photo of the bulb is what the RS presidency gave to every woman. A forced bulb that needs a few more weeks in the fridge but will bloom in January. I LOVE this idea. I have never been in a ward before that gives a gift to everyone in the RS every year - this was my favorite one they have ever done.

We were happy to have Dad come home from Denver where he officially signed his contract for his new job and did a little Denver house hunting!

getting the girls to pose with mom is always harder but we did get one shotand of course tried for a family photo to remember our Sunday snowy day.

have you heard the Amy Grant song before?
Does your church group give Christmas gifts?
should I keep the red Santa coat or pass it down?

By all means keep the coat or, at the very least, cut and keep a large swatch of the coat fabric for each girl. Put it in a safe place with some pictures of each girl wearing the coat and a legend about the coat. Who knows if you will ever look at it again, but some day the girls or even THEIR girls will find the coat or swatches in a trunk and smile at the pictures, legend and wonderful mom that made it all possible.

I can't believe you hadn't heard that Amy Grant song before. She has 3 Christmas Albums and they're all fabulous, definitely my favorites to listen to every year!

That red coat is so darling, it's wonderful all your girls have been able to wear it.

Keep the coat!!!

Is that even a question??? It is adorable & you will love pulling it out for a grandbaby!

Do not cut it up...It renders it useless to anyone.

I have heard that song before and love it!

My ward does a gift for RS every Christmas...they usually do some kind of ornament, with a scripture or sentiment, which I love.

Looks like you had fun with all the snow! :)

I put that song on repeat and listen to it at least 10 times.

Keep the coat for sure. You will love to see your grandkids in it one day. It will make you cry a good cry, a touching moment down the road!

I love the song...it is one of my favorites. The coat is a keeper.I have a similar one my sister (16 years older then me) wore when she was little and now my daughter wears it. And as the wife of a Bishop..gifts take a lot of budget something we don't have. So nope we don't get a gift each year but he bulb sounds great!

I love that amy grant song. All the wards I've attended only give a gift on mothers day. I say keep the coat...or I know someone who would love it for her little girls (hint, hint)

Love that Amy Grant song...I remember it from my teenage years. It's very nostalgic for me.

Our ward gives chocolate on Mother's Day (which actually comes from the Young Men, which means that I'm taping quotes on chocolate bars every years because T is YM Pres).

Keep the coat. the girls will love pulling it out 10 years from now.

The coat is a treasure! I love items that all four of my boys have worn... I tend to keep the special ones...

I LOVE that song from Amy Grant. But honestly - I just heard it the first time last year! I must have played it a million times since then.

FUN that a contract has officially been signed!!!

Great RS gift.

I want to say send the coat to me! But, we wouldn't get much use out of it in San Diego, and besides, I believe in my heart that you should keep it!
Love the snow!

I cannot believe you made that coat. Just when I think you can't get anymore amazing I see something else you have done. You really are an inspiration and this ward is going to miss you like crazy. It's to bad more people aren't like you. I just have to say I think you are beautiful inside and out.

Breath of Heaven is one of my all-time favorite songs. I always get teary when she gets to the "help me" section. My Amy Grant Christmas cds are my go-to happy albums.

Kristi, that coat is amazing! LOVE it. What a great heirloom.

Our RS gives a gift to all the sisters as well. I just got mine today, a copy of next year's manual, a package of tissues, and some lifesavers. Last year was a knitted cotton dischloth that I adore and that got me to learn how to knit!
